LOCK HAVEN -- The Giosue Carducci Lodge of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, Lock Haven, has continuously provided local graduates assistance in their continued education through a number of scholarships over the years.
Recently, those individuals -- both current college students and graduates -- have chosen to share the impact the Sons' scholarship program had on them.
Teagan Rogers, grandson of Sons and Daughters member Dan Vilello, is a current member of the club and received an academic scholarship during his senior year of high school.
"I have been coming to the Sons and Daughters of Italy since I was little due to my grandfather, Dan Vilello, being a member. Witnessing the lasting impact that the Sons and Daughters of Italy have made on the community is truly astonishing," Rogers said.
He said the scholarship allowed him to pursue higher education at West Chester University, where he is pursuing a degree in exercise science with a concentration in pre-physical therapy. Rogers also serves in the Army National Guard.
"Serving in the Army National Guard while in college came with some challenges; however, the generosity of the Sons and Daughters of Italy has allowed me to focus on my studies and my service in the military to the greatest extent," he said.
After he graduates from West Chester University, Rogers said he plans to attend graduate school in physical therapy to further his education.
"I want to thank everyone at the Sons and Daughters of Italy for their generosity and kindness, as it has enabled me to carry out my goals," Rogers said.
