SHARPSBURG, Md. -- From Sept. 25 thru Sept. 27, 2026, 160 Scouts and adult leaders from across Central Pennsylvania traveled south for a weekend of history, outdoor adventure and fellowship at the Scouting America Susquehanna Council Fall Camporee.
Representing units from across the council's five-county footprint--Clinton, Lycoming, Union, Snyder and Northumberland counties--the Scouts gathered at historic Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Md., and visited nearby Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
The action-packed weekend offered participants a unique blend of immersive history and traditional Scouting activities. Scouts spent their time exploring pivotal Civil War landmarks, learning about the region's rich heritage and building leadership and outdoor skills. At the battlefield, Scouts were treated to living history presentations by Revolutionary War and Civil War reenactors. Highlights included live musket-shooting demonstrations and captivating storytelling that brought the realities of both historic eras to life.
In addition to local units, the event drew participation from beyond council borders. Two visiting troops joined the gathering: one traveling from the Greater New York Council and another from the Westmoreland-Fayette Council near Pittsburgh. The visiting units gave local youth the opportunity to connect with fellow Scouts from different regions, forging new friendships and exchanging stories around the campfire.
Event organizers expressed a special thank you to all of the adult leaders and camporee committee members whose dedicated planning and hard work made such an impactful weekend possible for the Scouts.
By the end of the trip, participants returned home to Central Pennsylvania with a deeper appreciation for American history and lasting memories of a collaborative weekend.
Units attending the camporee were: Troops 5, 12, 26, 31,38, 86, 172, 208, 325, 333, 419, 427, 525, 538, 610, 622, and 711. Also there were AOL scouts from Packs 80 and 711.
