LOGANTON — The Sugar Valley Lions Club honored area Students of the Month from Sugar Valley Rural Charter School at their recent dinner meeting.

The students are selected by their school administration for their academic achievements, leadership abilities and involvement in community activities.

The students were introduced by Angela Basalla, a teacher at the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School, due to the absence of Administrator Brian Stugart. The students were given time to tell the Lions members what activities they are involved with at school, the community and their plans for furthering their education after graduation in June.

Students honored for the third quarter of the 2025-2026 school year are Alyna Basalla and Nickisha Wetzel. A third student selected for the honor, Grayson Hastings, was absent from the meeting.

Alyna, accompanied by her parents, Patrick and Angela, talked about her activities at school — being treasurer of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), choir and also active with events at her church. After graduation she plans to attend the State University of New York in New Paltz, N.Y.

Nickisha, accompanied by her mother, Mindie Wetzel, and Nickisha’s boyfriend, talked about her interest in art, especially in the artistic and psychological aspects of tattoos. After graduation she plans to pursue a career as a professional tattoo artist. To become certified and licensed she will need to complete training courses that include CPR, bloodborne pathogens, apprenticeships, learning state requirements for licensing, shop inspections and continuing education requirements for license renewal.

Starting at $3.69/week.
