‘Infusion Design’: South Hills to host gallery on June 3 at Tempest Studios

STATE COLLEGE — After an absence of several years, the South Hills School of Business & Technology Graphic Arts program is excited to announce the return of its student gallery show, “Infusive Designs 2024.”

Scheduled for June 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tempest Studios in downtown State College, this event marks a significant milestone in the academic and creative lives of the South Hills graduating Graphic Arts class.

A Showcase of Talent

and Hard Work

“Infusive Designs 2024 is a gallery show showcasing some of the best work created by the graduating class of our Graphic Arts program,” Jim Colbert, Interim Graphic Arts Program Coordinator says. “We are excited to bring the event back after a hiatus of several years, and delighted to present it at one of our internship sites, Tempest Studios in downtown State College.”

The gallery will feature an array of student works, including advertising and publication design, poster designs, self-promotional pieces, type specimen books and innovative packaging designs. Each student will display three pieces of their choice, representing the culmination of their educational journey at South Hills.

Student Preparation and Involvement

Students have been heavily involved in every step of preparing for the show — from designing and creating the pieces to handling the physical assembly and setup, Colbert says.

“This varies from physical construction of the type books to printing and physical assembly of beverage packaging designs. On 2D works, students are responsible for printing, framing, and mounting their pieces,” says Colbert.

Professional and Academic Growth

According to Colbert, participating in “Infusive Designs 2024” offers more than just an exhibition space; it provides possible networking opportunities.

“It is a potential networking opportunity as the students display the ‘best of their best’ work, and a chance for most of them to participate in their first gallery exhibition,” Colbert says.

Open to the Public

The event invites not only the public but also faculty, staff, internship partners and the students’ family and friends, making it a community affair. The broader aim is to make such shows an annual event, as was the tradition pre-pandemic.

“We intend to do the show annually, as we did pre-pandemic. For two years the students have worked towards the goal of having both print and digital portfolios; this event puts their work out into the world and on public display.”

As “Infusive Designs 2024” prepares to open its doors, it not only celebrates the achievements of South Hills’ talented students but also reaffirms the school’s commitment to fostering practical experiences that prepare its graduates for the professional world. Everyone is encouraged to attend and witness the future of graphic design as envisioned by its newest innovators.
