WILLIAMSPORT — Two of the longest-performing and most storied musical groups in the Lycoming Valley come together this Spring to present Homeward Bound at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at the Community Arts Center.
The Williamsport Civic Chorus has been steadily performing since 1944 and the Repasz Band is nearing its 200th anniversary, although the two groups have only performed together once before, for the Concert of the Millennium in October of 1999.
This joint performance will give musical meaning to “home,” whether it represents a childhood memory, something familiar and comforting, or perhaps a spiritual destination.
Each group will present a few numbers on their own, and finally combine forces for a rousing finale.
Selections include beloved standards such as the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Shenandoah,” as well as the lyrical poetry of Langston Hughes and others, under the combined batons of Dr. Caleb Hopkins and Jeff Dent, directors of the Civic Chorus and the Repasz Band, respectively.
In keeping with the Repasz Band’s tradition, there is no charge for admission to this concert. Donations, however, will be gratefully accepted.
Join both groups at the Community Arts Center for Homeward Bound on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m.
