Altoona Symphony Orchestra continues ‘Journeys’ Season 97 with Passport of Sound

ALTOONA — The Altoona Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will present Passport of Sound on March 14, at 7:30 p.m. inviting audiences on a musical journey inspired by travel, discovery and new creative perspectives. This dynamic program explores how encountering new places and cultures expands artistic horizons and shapes emotional expression through sound.

A highlight of the evening will be Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major performed by ASO Principal Trumpet, George Carpten, IV. One of the most celebrated works in the trumpet repertoire, Haydn’s concerto showcases brilliance, lyricism and technical virtuosity, capturing the spirit of innovation that defined the Classical era.

The concert will also feature Alegria, an original composition by ASO musician Brent Register. Written for English horn and bass clarinet, Alegria will be performed by Brent Register and fellow ASO musician Mark Weaver. This work explores rich tonal colors and expressive interplay between the two instruments, reflecting the joy and inspiration that come from new experiences and shared artistic collaboration.

Through masterworks and contemporary composition alike, Passport of Sound offers audiences an emotional voyage — one that celebrates how travel and cultural exchange broaden perspective, deepen empathy and spark new creative pathways. The ASO is committed to artistic excellence, innovative programming and showcasing the extraordinary talent within its own membership. Tickets and additional information are available through the Mishler Box Office.
