WILLIAMSPORT — Community Theatre League invites audiences to experience “Godspell,” the beloved musical that celebrates the power of community, kindness and coming together, running Feb. 6 to 8 and Feb. 12 to 15.

Based on the Gospel of Matthew, Godspell tells its story through parables, games and song, using humor, joy and heartfelt storytelling to explore timeless lessons of compassion and connection.

Featuring an eclectic score that blends pop, folk and vaudeville influences, the show has remained a favorite for more than five decades.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Godspell’s original Broadway run, making this production especially meaningful.

First developed as an experimental theatre piece performed by a small group of young artists, “Godspell” grew from a grassroots project into a groundbreaking Broadway musical, all while holding tight to its core message of shared humanity.

“At a time when our world feels increasingly divided, Godspell reminds us of the importance of common humanity,” said Seth Sponhouse, executive artistic director of the CTL. “This show is rooted in the idea that community is built through listening, empathy and shared experience. Those themes feel more urgent now than they have in recent memory.”

The CTL production is brought to life by a vibrant ensemble of familiar CTL performers whose varied experiences and voices come together in service of the story. Together, the cast embodies the collaborative spirit and sense of shared humanity at the core of Godspell.

“At its heart, Godspell is about building community through shared humanity,” Sponhouse added. “This cast comes together not because of what makes them different, but because of what connects them, and that connection is what audiences will feel.”

“Godspell” is directed by Philip Vonada with Ellen Boll serving as music director and Erin Mowrey as choreographer. The cast includes: Dakkota Deem as Jesus; Seth Confer as John the Baptist and Judas; Nicole Shoop as Nicole; Penny Samar as Penny; Maddie Bell as Maddie; Tyler Marvin as Tyler; Theodore Lentz as Theodore; Hannah McBride as Hannah; Kim Fuller as Kim; Tim Hippensteel as Tim.

The show was conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. It was originally produced on the New York Stage by Edgar Lansbury/Stuart Duncan/Joseph Beruh.
