DLH, Roxy Theatre, Beyond the Bell team up for screening of teen mental health movie

Free event to feature documentary, local resources

From Staff Reports

LOCK HAVEN — Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. in collaboration with Roxy Movie Theatre and Beyond the Bell for Clinton County will offer a free community screening of “Tell My Story,” a 30-minute documentary about teen mental well-being, resilience and finding passion on Wednesday, May 13 at 7 p.m.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and feature lobby displays by Center for Community Resources, Veterans Multi-Service Center, AIDS Resource/AR Health and Lycoming/Clinton MHID.

Free popcorn and soda will be available for moviegoers.

The film resulted after Jason Reid lost his 14-year old son, Ryan, to suicide and found a post-it-note with the message “tell my story.”

With that mission, Jason formed a non-profit — Tell My Story — to create a space for storytelling and for hard conversations to take place.

Through film, Jason hopes to change the story of mental health problems to possibility and promote hope. The film has opened conversations at festivals and showings around the country. The film was produced by Cinema Libre Studio and Oak Hollow Studios.

“Mental health is so often ignored or hidden in our society. Downtown merchants and business owners are your friends, neighbors and families. They wanted to offer the opportunity for our community to come together and open the conversation on mental health in an informal way. We hope teens, parents, families, teachers and others take advantage of this free opportunity and enjoy a spring evening in town,” DLH Manager Dr. Rick Schulze said.

The event is free and open to the public.

Starting at $3.69/week.
