‘Stillness in Motion’: CCAC’s juried photography show kicks off with reception May 29

LOCK HAVEN — The Clinton County Arts Council’s juried photography show has become an event that many look forward to each year. It not only showcases the work of talented photographers in our area; it also provides an opportunity for visitors to Lock Haven’s Station Gallery to view our world in fresh and sometimes surprising ways.

The focus of this year’s exhibit is “Stillness and Motion,” a theme that allows photographers to showcase dramatic action shots, moments caught in transit and images of serene repose. And, in fact, the photographers in this year’s show offer a wide variety of responses. We see an eagle lifting off from a snowy field and a bike-rider suspended in mid-air. We see a dragonfly perched momentarily on a bare twig and foam-tide suspended on sand. And we see a farm on the cusp of spring and a light beam falling quietly across a forest path.

The CCAC invites you to step inside the gallery, pause in front of these images one by one and think along with them about ways the world around us, stopped momentarily in its tracks, can startle, soothe and delight.

The exhibit will officially open with a reception at the Station Gallery on Friday, May 29, beginning at 6 p.m.

The judge for this year’s show is Craig Kaufman. Craig graduated from the York Academy of Art and Kutztown State College. He taught public school art for 35 plus years, as well as teaching 22 years, nights and summers, in the Art Department at The Pennsylvania College of Technology. He was also employed, over nine spring semesters, at Lycoming College in the Art Education Department. He is now retired from teaching but spends time in his studio each day where he continues the interest in painting he’s had since he was young. When time permitted, Craig was able to study the paintings in many museums abroad. He has exhibited his own work throughout Pennsylvania and New York. His wife, who was also a painter, enjoyed showing her work in the galleries of New York City.

Craig has also had the opportunity to lecture on aesthetics at the many art exhibitions he’s been invited to judge.

The juried awards will be announced at 7 p.m. at Friday’s opening reception. A People’s Choice contest will follow, in which participants will vote for their favorite images.

Ribbons for People’s Choice will be given out at the end of the night for those photos that receive the most votes.

This year’s show will be sponsored by Robert C. Gleghorn, President and Principal Agent of the Mountain Top Insurance Agency, Inc., for the 14th consecutive year.

“We are extremely grateful for Mr. Gleghorn’s continuing support for our photo show,” said Carol Cillo, CCAC board member.

PHOTOS PROVIDED Examples of photographs to be shown at the juried photography show include “Lonely Windmill” by Ric Jones.

The exhibit is free of charge. The public is invited to attend the reception to see the show, have some refreshments, talk with the photographers, and vote for the images they like best.

The show will run through Saturday, June 27.

Starting at $3.69/week.
