Community invited to sing along with Twisted Racquet Tears on June 21

LOCK HAVEN -- The community is invited to a "Sing Along" with the local band, the Twisted Racquet Tears, on Sunday, June 21, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the assembly room of Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven. The event is part of the Alzheimer's Association's Longest Day celebration in which awareness and funds are raised for the benefit of those with memory loss diseases and their caregivers on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Since June 21 is the day with the most light, it is a fitting time to shed light on the devastating disease of Alzheimer's.
The Alzheimer's Association asks fundraising groups to "do what they love" to celebrate this day. The Covenant Cafe, a local early stage Alzheimer's activity group, chose to host a sing along with the local band.
The band is composed of five energetic and talented "seniors" who play at a variety of local venues and serve as the "house band" for the Music Jam held the first and third Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Clinton County Community Center for Healthy Aging in Lock Haven.
The core group of the band met over 20 years ago while playing racquetball (hence the name) and added members to the band throughout the years. Current members include Bruce Wooley, Jim Gregory, George Stefanski, all on guitar, Rose Reeder on bass and Diana Andrus on mandolin.
The band plays a variety of genres including Rock 'n Roll, Country, gospel, folk, songs from the 40s and 50s and original tunes. Lyrics to the songs are projected on a screen or the wall so that everyone can sing along.
A free will offering will be taken and a basket raffle will be conducted to benefit the Alzheimer's Association and the Covenant Cafe which meets at the church. The church has a parking lot adjacent to the building and free street parking is available on Sunday.
