Susquehanna International Film Festival returns for second year

MUNCY -- Friday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 11, the Susquehanna International Film Festival (SFF) will return to the District Cinema at Lycoming Valley in Muncy. Local and global filmmakers, from students to experienced filmmakers, will have the opportunity to present their work to a live movie theater audience in a gorgeous 12-screen multiplex theater with state of the art sound and projection systems. During last year's inaugural festival, 33 films in diverse film categories from globally based filmmakers were screened to an enthusiastic theater audience, with awards given for best Pennsylvania film, best documentary film, best student film, best short film, best comedy film, best drama film, best horror film and best animation film, in addition to other categories.
Founded by Hollywood, California film executive Tim Yasui, who was born and raised in Williamsport, the goals for the festival have grown since last year to include even more films and more categories, including the best Williamsport made film.
Yasui said, "As a newly restructured non-profit film festival SUSQ#42-375475, registered in the Commonwealth of my beloved Pennsylvania, I want to encourage regional filmmakers to join the ranks of filmmakers from around the world, who are pursuing their dreams of seeing their art on the big screen -- the way films were originally meant to be seen -- and on the flipside to encourage folks who have resorted to watching films on tiny iPads and cell phones to get off their couches and make the easy trip over to the District Cinema. Substantial investments have been made to improve their complex to give film lovers an even greater theater experience than last year."
District Cinema general manager Jordan Musheno said, "We couldn't be more excited to welcome Tim Yasui and the Susquehanna International Film Festival back to the District Cinema this year, where audiences will be able to celebrate and explore an incredible variety of films that span every budget, every genre and walk of life."
Ticket prices for the SFF are $8 for a single film, $25 for an all-day pass or $40 for a full 3-day pass. An awards event on the final evening of Sunday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. will be open to the public.
