WILLIAMSPORT -- Beatles or Stones? More than six decades after the question first divided rock fans, the debate is coming to the stage in Williamsport.
"Beatles vs. Stones -- A Musical Showdown" comes to the Journey Bank Community Arts Center on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m., bringing the music of the two biggest bands of the British Invasion together for an evening of hits, harmonies, guitar riffs and rock 'n' roll rivalry.
The nationally touring production features acclaimed Beatles tribute Abbey Road squaring off against Satisfaction -- The International Rolling Stones Show in a concert that recreates the friendly rivalry that has followed the two legendary groups since the 1960s.
Rather than performing traditional back-to-back tribute sets, Abbey Road and Satisfaction alternate throughout the evening, answering one classic with another. Beatles favorites spanning the band's remarkable career go head-to-head with the blues-soaked rock and swagger of the Rolling Stones before both groups ultimately share the stage for the show's finale.
For audiences, that means one night filled with many of the songs that helped define rock music -- and another opportunity to decide which side wins the eternal debate.
Abbey Road brings the Beatles' music to life with period-appropriate costumes and instruments, vocal harmonies and musicianship designed to capture the changing sound of the Fab Four. The band's performance travels from the excitement of early Beatlemania through the increasingly sophisticated music of the Beatles' later years.
Representing the other side of the British rock rivalry, Satisfaction recreates the look, sound and attitude of the Rolling Stones. The internationally touring production captures the unmistakable showmanship associated with Mick Jagger and the guitar-driven sound that helped make the Stones one of rock's most enduring live acts.
Together, the two bands turn the traditional tribute concert into a musical competition, with audiences encouraged to cheer on their favorites throughout the night.
Beatles vs. Stones has become a touring favorite, with the production performing more than 2,200 shows across the United States and internationally.
"The Beatles and the Stones created two extraordinary catalogs of music, and fans have been arguing about their favorite ever since," said producer Andy Nagle. "Beatles vs. Stones turns that debate into a concert. You get hit after hit from both bands, and by the end of the night, you may decide the audience is the real winner."
The production has drawn praise from critics across the country. The Los Angeles Times called Beatles vs. Stones "the most unique tribute show in decades," while the Orange County Register described it as an "electrifying show." The Idaho Statesman reported, "The crowd was on their feet screaming the entire time!"
