By From Staff Reports 2 min read

LOCK HAVEN -- On Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. at Avenue 209, Nashville songwriter and local resident Michael "Max" McGee will be hosting an event to provide some valuable information about how to navigate today's music industry.

McGee has been a song writer for several decades with songs on the charts, in movies and TV shows, winning international song contests and in other musical areas as well.

The event is set up to help local residents who are songwriters, lyricists, artists, musicians and others understand how today's music business works so they can avoid the mistakes and pitfalls that are endemic in the industry.

"There are so many charlatans and other obstacles in the industry that beginning artists, writers and musicians need to avoid," McGee said. "Essentially the program will be a short intro to the music industry by me and then open to questions that attendees might have."

McGee said the event is designed to be discussion based and not a lecture, giving attendees the chance to better understand the music industry in today's market and how to navigate it.

Those who are interested in attending the program are asked to RSVP by emailing michael0mcgee@gmail.com.

Topics of interest that will be considered or discussed include:

-- How hit songs are constructed. Structure, lyric, melody, production and using hooks, bridges and choruses appropriately.

-- How publishing, copyright, work for hire and studio demoing works.

-- Sync opportunities in movies, TV shows, documentaries, ads and what is needed to be successful in navigating these opportunities.

-- How AI is changing how the industry works.

-- Songwriting contests and how to use them for your benefit and how to avoid being taken by false contests.

-- Song plugging offers and what to avoid.

-- Legitimate opportunities to network and meet legitimate music industry professionals.

-- How songs earn money for the creators and what to know about streaming, mechanical licenses, performance royalties.

-- Essentially being open to try and answer any questions that the audience might have that they want to have answered.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear songs written and performed by McGee which have won international song contests and more.
