"Marsalis' Swinging Cities" features compositions inspired by his global journeys and connections made worldwide. The program will include works inspired by his travels to the Basque city of Vitoria in Spain, China's financial hub of Shanghai; and the medieval town of Marciac, France.
"This is a celebration of the uncommon embrace and unflagging support I have received from different cities during my nearly five decades on the road," Marsalis said.
This will be the eighth appearance at Penn State by Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The bandleader also has performed at Eisenhower Auditorium with a sextet, and in 2020 in a virtual performance of "The Democracy Suite!" featuring his septet.
