UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State Extension will offer a free webinar aimed at helping participants manage debt. "Your Money Matters: Debt Management" will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 19.
This webinar is designed for the public, human services providers and anyone interested in developing a healthier relationship with money, building a realistic spending plan, and working toward financial goals.
Over-borrowing money can lead to a downward spiral of financial despair if left unchecked, organizers noted. Financial stress can take a toll on one's physical health, relationships and overall well-being.
Regardless of one's level of debt, many strategies and resources exist to regain control and achieve financial wellness. This webinar will discuss these strategies.
This session can help participants:
-- Learn to recognize the symptoms of uncontrollable debt.
-- Create a plan to avoid, combat or manage financial crisis.
-- Explore options in debt management.
-- Identify and avoid debt repair scams.
This webinar is the fourth in a five-part series that runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 28 through Oct. 26 and covers such topics as setting money goals, developing a budget, identity theft and credit cards. Participants do not have to register for all five sessions but can attend all or any that they wish and must register for each session separately.
Participants will receive a copy of Penn State Extension's Build a Budget workbook to set them on a course for regular money management.
Webinar material is used with permission and based on the "Money Counts: A Financial Literacy Series" program at Penn State's Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center.
Penn State Extension offers this webinar free of charge, but participants must register by noon Oct. 18 to receive the link to access the webinar. Registrants also will receive access to the webinar recording.
