Luxe and Lace cuts ribbon to mark official grand opening in DLH

LOCK HAVEN — Surrounded by family, friends, local officials and members of the community, Michele Briggs — owner of Luxe and Lace — cut a ceremonial ribbon and marked the official grand opening of her bridal boutique in downtown Lock Haven on Friday morning.

Prior to cutting the ribbon, Briggs thanked everyone for their support — from family members to the community — while she worked to open the bridal shop.

She noted she’d received a “wide range” of support even outside of the area, with brides-to-be traveling from outside of Clinton County to find a dress for their perfect day.

She also shared her journey to opening Luxe and Lace.

Briggs explained she worked part-time at a bridal shop in Hughesville on weekends 20 years ago. She said she loved the experience and loved seeing how happy and content the owner was.

That energy made the drives to Hughesville each Saturday worth it for her.

“I didn’t care how far it was, how much gas I spent,” she said.

After leaving this part-time job, she spent 20 years in the corporate world eventually working for a global industry. She noted, a year before it happened, she knew she was going to be terminated.

In that year she tried to apply for positions within that company and for other jobs at other businesses, coming up short.

“It was mentally draining,” she told those gathered.

Finally, one night, she said she was laying in bed when she asked God for advice.

“‘Open your shop,'” she said she’d heard. Realizing what this meant, she said that night she slept the best she had in a long time.

Soon enough, with the support of her family and the local community, her dreams of opening a bridal shop became a reality.

Briggs told those at the grand opening that, even if they aren’t a person of faith, she hoped her story would bring them closer to faithfulness.

The grand opening, hosted by Downtown Lock Haven, Inc., featured words from DLH Manager Melissa Dally, Clinton County Economic Partnership President/CEO David Harger and Mayor Joel Long.

Also in attendance at Friday’s event was State Representative Stephanie Borowicz, Lock Haven City Council members and a variety of community members.
