Chamber and Tourism Update

Help wanted!

Volunteer help, that is.

Our office just finished putting together the 2023 Clinton County Events Booklet, and, wow, are there a lot of great events planned this year. In addition to wanting people to take part in many of these activities, there's also a real need for more volunteers to help carry them out.

Give some thought about whether you could offer a bit of your time and/or expertise. Then give me a call at 570-748-5782 and we'll be glad to talk with you about your interests and what group might be a great match for you. I guarantee you won't regret getting involved!

Speaking of mustering troops, Clinton County will be THE place to be this year if you're interested in outdoor challenges. In addition to all of the great trail races, ATV and motorcycle events that bring loads of people to our area, Clinton County will see two NEW and somewhat unique outdoor challenges.

Rootstock Racing hosts the Endless Mountains Adventure Race June 26-July 1 in the eastern portion of the PA Wilds, which includes Clinton County. This multi-day, 325-mile challenge involves two- to four-person teams who will trek/run, bike and pack raft a course that will only become known to them as the race begins (I'll call this an 'Amazing Race,' PA Wilds style)!

The event also includes a 30-hour "beginner" division, called the Endless Mountains 'Lite' for those not ready for or interested in a multi-day expedition race.

On July 2, The Ironman Group will host the first of what we hope will become an annual Ironman 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley challenge. This one-day, 70.3-mile event – brought to the region by the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau who got Clinton County involved as a supporting partner – starts with a 1.2-mile swim in the lake at Bald Eagle State Park, followed by a 56-mile bicycle course that runs down Route 150 from Blanchard to Mill Hall, cuts onto Route 64, then veers onto the Jacksonville Road to head back into Centre County. The final leg of the course is a 13-mile run on the Penn State Campus, with participants crossing the finish on the 50-yard line at Penn State's Beaver Stadium!!!

Anyone interested in volunteering for either (or both) of these events should also reach out to our office (570-748-5782 or email tourismdirector@clintoncountyinfo.com), as there are many volunteer needs.

What else is on tap this year? Plenty!

The Partnership Visitors Bureau soon will announce the 2023 puzzle for the Clinton County Landmarks puzzle series. As we did last year, there will be a photo contest to gather pictures of the landmark, with one of the submissions being chosen as the face of the 2023 puzzle.

The 2022 puzzle of the view from Hyner View is now wrapped up -- we're out of puzzles, having sold a thousand of them. It was an amazing kick-off for the puzzle series and we believe the 2023 puzzle will be just as successful. A hint: this year's puzzle will feature Clinton County's last remaining covered bridge. If you're a photographer, start snapping!

We're working with other organizations who will bring in visitors for specific events in 2023.

Lock Haven University will again host the state championships of the Odyssey of the Mind educational initiative on April 1, with close to a thousand students from across the state on campus for a full day.

Clinton County will host the 2023 U.S. Canoe Association (USCA) canoe and kayak national races August 10-13 at the Lockport Boat Launch in Woodward Township. It's the first time the "nationals" have been held here since 2014, so we're excited to be part of a sub-committee of the Clinton County Recreation Advisory Committee bringing the event back to the area.

And, the Colorado Rangers Horse Association will be back at the Clinton County Fairgrounds in 2023 for their national horse show September 16 and 17. Participants come from PA, New York and beyond. They love the Fairgrounds and our area, and we love having them for a weekend.

We also want to recognize and congratulate several local organizations celebrating special milestones this year.

Millbrook Playhouse marks its 60th anniversary in 2023. That's a diamond anniversary and your attendance at and support of the barn theatre in Mill Hall will definitely make the Playhouse sparkle.

Clinton County Fair Week is July 29-August 5 and this year's fair is the 50th, with a number of extra-special activities planned. Fair food, 4-H'ers and their animals, exhibits and competitions, rides and nightly family entertainment are just a few great reasons to spend time at the fair.

We'll wrap it up with what I feel is one of the most important and necessary operations in the county. The Wayne Township Landfill this year marks the 50th anniversary of when the McElhattan facility accepted its first load of waste. The Landfill's sustainability is definitely important to our sustainability.

We invite you to get out and enjoy these and other events and activities -- they're a big part of what makes Clinton County so special. For more information, visit the Calendar of Events on the Partnership website at www.Clinton CountyInfo.com.

Starting at /week.
