President’s Report

By Mike Flanagan 3 min read

As we normally do for this Partners edition, I offer my remarks from our October 5, 2022 annual dinner at the Durrwachter Center, attended by over 150 people.

**********************

Thank you, Dr. Bashar Hanna for being with us tonight and delivering the keynote address. I know you know how important the Lock Haven University campus is to our greater community.

Congratulations to Katie DeSilva and Jeff Stover for receiving our two awards that were presented tonight (Katie was the recipient of the Carl Bergdahl Award for Tourism, and Jeff received the Frank D. O'Reilly Award for Community Service). It is well deserved. Good luck to both of you as you soon enter retirement life.

Thanks to Millbrook Playhouse for the presentation and also good luck to David Leidholdt as he moves on in a few weeks.

Thanks to all of you for coming and to our sponsors - including elite sponsor UPMC. This is our first dinner in three years. I believe our greater community has had a nice bounce back business wise since the essential/nonessential approach in March 2020. The Covid regulations hurt our small businesses, while the big box stores stayed open. Nevertheless, we are here and although the hospitality areas might not be up to pre-Covid levels, we are trending the right way. And we hope 2023 will be a great one. Croda Inc., Pine Creek Seed Farm, Renovo Energy Center and others have great future plans.

These projects are always assisted by our local officials - our county commissioners, State Representative Stephanie Borowicz and office, and State Senator Cris Dush. Deb Rudy of Senator Dush's office will soon be going with Senator Gene Yaw's staff due to redistricting, and we thank Deb, who is here tonight, for all her help through the years.

Thanks to our staff. They put in a lot of time, as does our various committees. We promote a lot of events, support transportation improvements, did a successful Hyner View Puzzle, and our Leadership Clinton County and Enterprise Zone programs continue on.

As we usually do at this event, we point out the community-oriented people we have lost in the past year or so (late 2021 to September 2022). They include, but are not limited to, Kathy Spotts Humiston, Dennis Caprio, Neil Turner, Toni Tomasi, Dr. Ken Cox, Dan Duck Jr., Dr. Jim Dolan, John Curcio, Ray Gorham, Joe Coldren, John Bryerton, Betty Schantz, Tony Anastos, Ira Masemore, Gail Gephart, Yvonne Weaver, Leotta Schrack, Ernie Peterson, and Steve Caskey.

Thanks to everyone for coming tonight. We look forward to 2023 and beyond.

Starting at /week.
