A host of ghosts at Taber Museum

2 min read

WILLIAMSPORT – The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society has had the reputation for a very long time of having a resident ghost: the ghost of young Nellie Tallman.

Her portrait graces the Victorian Parlor of the museum. She looks innocently at the viewer, but does her ghostly presence roam the museum after hours?

Nellie has been joined by a whole host of ghosts – in the museum store. Just in time for Halloween, the bookshelves currently carry two selections that acquaint the reader with Pennsylvania ghosts.

The book “Ghost Stories of Pennsylvania” by Dan Asfar actually contains the sad story of Nellie Tallman.

A new addition to the bookshelves was written by Beverley Conrad and her husband Greg Burgess. Residents of Snyder County, they say that their house is haunted. “The Headless Dog and Other Extraordinary Far-Fetched True Tales of Central Pennsylvania” also contains a number of other bone-chilling tales.

With each purchase, the buyer will receive a postcard that outlines the ghostly tale of Nellie Tallman.

The museum is at 858 W. Fourth St. and is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on Sundays from November through May. For more information, call 570-326-3326 or visit www.tabermuseum.org.
