Want to be a ‘Wedding Singer’?

BOALSBURG – Here’s your opportunity to try out for the musical version of the hit film “The Wedding Singer,” which featured comedic love-story duo Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

Auditions are being held this week at the State College Community Theatre Backstage at 171 Technology Drive, Suite 800, Boalsburg. Those interested in trying out are encouraged to stop by between 7 and 10 p.m. tonight or Friday, or 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. Callbacks may take place on Sunday, if needed. Those auditioning must arrive and register within the hours indicated and appointments aren’t needed.

Christmas concert

MILESBURG – The Penns Valley Men’s Chorus will be performing their Christmas concert at the Milesburg United Methodist church on Sunday.

The church is located on Turnpike Street in Milesburg and the concert will begin at 3 p.m.

Screening of classic ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

STATE COLLEGE – The classic Christmastime favorite “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be shown at The State Theatre next week, making it possible for everyone to see the film and realize just how each person touches their loved ones’ lives.

In the film, George Bailey feels his life is pulling apart at the seams when he hits financial problems during the holidays, and begins to wonder if things would be better if he weren’t alive at all. In a nightmarish vision of what life would be like without him, his hometown is sunk sin and those he loves are either dead, ruined or miserable. He realizes he has touched many people in a positive way and his life has truly been a wonderful one.

The heartwarming, two-hour classic will be aired at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 21-23.

See ‘Rudolph’ live

STATE COLLEGE – The beloved TV classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” will soar off the screen and onto the stage at the Bryce Jordan Center on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.

See all your favorite characters from the special, including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius and, of course, Rudolph, as they come to life in the musical. It’s an adventure that teaches everyone that what makes people different can be what makes them special.

You’re invited to a Christmas party

WILLIAMSPORT – You’re invited to The Community Theatre League’s Christmas party.

And it’s more than a party – It’s a concert.

The two-night event slated for Dec. 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. at 100 W. Third St., Williamsport. will feature musical performances by four area groups, Nothing But Treble, The Williamsport Flute Choir, The Keystone Saxophone Quartet, and a special appearance by former members of the Celtic group, Black Bear Crossing.

The evenings will conclude with a complimentary reception and general merriment.

STATE COLLEGE – The Central PA Dance Workshop will present its annual Special Holiday Performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 at The State Theatre, located at 130 W. College Ave., State College.

The group will “visit” vacation destinations, from fanciful to factual, to ice skating at Rockefeller Center, to Ireland, from time travel to a trip to the moon.

Children will participate, along with the adult ballet, modern, jazz, and tap classes. Special guest the Fraser Street Dancers will perform works from their repertory, the Children’s Ensemble will premiere excerpts from “Shades of Alice,” a look at the classic Alice in Wonderland tale, and the CPDW faculty will perform “Freedom” inspired by Maya Angelou’s “Caged Bird.” The production was choreographed by the CPDW faculty.

CCAC to host

holiday party

LOCK HAVEN – The Clinton County Arts Council will host its annual holiday party on Friday, Dec. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Station Gallery, located in the former train station at 2 E. Bald Eagle St., Lock Haven.

Guests are welcome to bring a gift for the gallery to hang on or put under the Christmas tree, or they can just bring their holiday caroling voice and smiles. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Holiday Quizzo offered Dec. 16

WILLIAMSPORT – Holiday Quizzo Happy Hour, a night of themed trivia, will be offered Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. in the Capitol Lounge, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.

Beginning at 7 p.m., Jon Mackey, “the Quizzo master,” will begin the four rounds of team trivia, with each round containing 10 questions. All questions will be geared toward the holiday season. ‘Messiah’ coming to Centre County

STATE COLLEGE – The Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra will be led by Dr. Christopher Kiver and joined by the Orpheus Singers as well as four of the area’s leading vocal soloists for its annual performance of George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah.”

You will not want to miss this seasonal tradition of beautiful music performed by the best musicians that the region has to offer.

The Performance will be offered on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Schwab Auditorium on Penn State’s Campus, and on Wednesday, Dec. 16 it will be offered at 7:30 p.m. in Faith United Methodist Church of Bellefonte.

All aboard the Whistle Stop Train Show

WILLIAMSPORT – The 36th Whistle Stop Train Show will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Woodward Fire Hall, Route 220, Williamsport.

The big electric train show and sale includes the sell, swap and purchase of electric trains, and over 115 tables are expected at the event.

There will be a meet and greet with Bill the R.R. conductor, and new and used Lionel, American Flyer, Marx, Ives, books, model trains, matchbox cars, parts and railroad antiques will be on sale.
