The Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corps of the Bland J. Rossman Post 1631 Veterans of Foreign Wars at Lock Haven won multiple national championships in their day. They earned their first national title in 1949 in Miami, their second in 1950 in Chicago, and their third in 1953 in Milwaukee. This photo was taken in Chicago, where a large crowd formed for a parade featuring a number of drum and bugle corps. The Black Knights were formed in 1946 and also won five state championships. The 1956 state championship was their last. Later that year, the group disbanded for lack of members.
