CEMETERY MEETING

Jacksonville Cemetery Association will hold their annual meeting on Saturday, January 25, at the Emmanuel Church of Christ social hall. The meeting will begin at 1 o’clock and all cemetery lot owners and those interested in serving on the cemetery board or volunteering are encouraged to attend. For more information about the Jacksonville Cemetery Association call 814-359-0307.

AMBULANCE MEMBERSHIP

It is time to renew your annual membership to the Beech Creek-Blanchard Ambulance Association.

Renewal membership cards have been mailed to past members, but if you haven’t received yours or if you’d like to start a new membership you can stop by the fire hall in Beech Creek tomorrow morning from 9-noon to complete the application and make the payment.

A family plan is $60 and the cost for an individual is $35. For more info call the fire station at 570-962-2382.

BASKET BENEFIT

Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek will host a basket benefit for Nena Haines on January 24. Nena is recovering from a serious medical condition which left her without the use of her legs. Nena and her husband Chuck Rider live in Blanchard. She is the daughter of Dwayne and Darla Haines. Nena was self-employed and hasn’t been able to work since her hospitalization began back in October.

Nena is making good progress with her physical therapy, but could use our support at this benefit and our prayers, too.

The basket benefit will be held on Friday, January 24, from 2-8 p.m. Baskets and donations are needed to make this benefit a big success for Nena. Please consider putting together a basket or donating items for the benefit. Restaurant gift cards, gas cards, grocery store or Wal-Mart gift cards are always great ideas for you to donate to these types of benefits.

Please call Sandy at 570-962-2397 to let her know that you will happily supply a basket for this benefit.

SAUSAGE SALE

Howard Fire Company is having a sausage sale with order pick-up scheduled for February 15. Orders are needed before February 10.

There will be salt & pepper loose sausage at $4 per pound; loose Breakfast Sage (is pretty bitey) for $4 a pound; Hot Italian stuffed and Sweet Italian stuffed are both $4.50 a pound and there will be a limited supply of scrapple at $8 per pound.

Fire Chief Collin Alterio works at the Insurance Office with me so we have an order sheet here if you’d like to drop by or call in an order to 814-625-2488 during weekday office hours.

RYAN’S PROJECT

Ryan Young is planning his senior project to benefit the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek. Ryan will be asking for donations and raising money to be able to pave the parking lot area at the FCC. Several estimates for the paving have already been received, and Ryan needs to raise $12,800 for Eby Paving to do the project this spring.

Ryan is a senior at Central Mountain this year and is a special needs student. He is the son of Mark and Fay Confer of Beech Creek. Ryan chose the FCC as his project because his mother Fay is actively involved at the FCC and Ryan has tagged along with her to events and meetings that have been held there.

Ryan will begin his senior project hours by preparing letters and asking local businesses and individuals for their monetary support so that he can raise all of the money that is needed for the paving. If you’d like to contribute to Ryan’s goal please send your tax-deductible donation to Friendship Community Center, PO Box 218, Beech Creek, PA 16822 and put “Ryan’s Paving Project” on the memo line.

I will have more details about Ryan’s Paving Project over the next few weeks, and I am hoping that our local community will shower this special young man with your support so that he reaches his goal. The paving will certainly benefit everyone who visits the FCC since the parking area now is stoned, uneven and sometimes muddy.

FREEZER NEEDED

Howard Area Lions Club is in need of a freezer for their Food Bank program. One of their freezers died recently and so the Lions are hoping that someone may have a new or used freezer that you would donate to them. The Lions Club men would happily come to your home or business to get the freezer from you. Call Lion Ron Davy at 570-962-2407 if you can provide a freezer quickly to them.

Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution will be on January 20 for residents of the Beech Creek area and those in Centre County who missed their date earlier this month. Bring your empty box back each month. Food bank hours are from 2-4 p.m. at the former Beech Creek Elementary School.

Lions Bingo will be held January 23 at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo games begin at 6:30.

Howard Area Lions will host their annual Sweetheart Dinner on February 8.
