SOUP SALE
Howard United Methodist Church will have a soup sale luncheon on Feb. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A bowl of soup, piece of pie, roll and beverage are $6.
Take-out quarts of soup are $6 each and your order can be called into Patti at 814-625-2182 by Sunday, Feb. 16.
LIONS CLUB NEWS
Howard Area Lions Club will host the annual Sweetheart Dinner on Feb. 8 at the Howard fire hall. Those 60 years of age and older in the club's service area are invited to come for a free dinner. The meal begins at noon, so come early for a good seat.
The Howard Area Lions Food Bank gave food boxes to 96 families during the month of January. The food bank will be open on Feb. 3 for Centre County residents in the club's service area and on Feb. 17 for those residents in the Beech Creek area. Food bank hours are from 2-4 p.m. Please bring your box back so that they can be refilled each month.
There will be a blood drive at the Howard fire hall on Feb. 12 from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Donations of all blood types are needed.
Lions Bingo will be held on Feb. 13 and on Feb. 27 at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. Doors open at 5 and bingo games start at 6:30.
SAUSAGE SALE
Howard Fire Company is having a sausage sale with order pick-up scheduled for Feb. 15. Orders are needed before Feb. 10.
There will be salt & pepper loose sausage at $4 per pound; loose Breakfast Sage (is pretty bitey) for $4 a pound; Hot Italian stuffed and Sweet Italian stuffed are both $4.50 a pound and there will be a limited supply of scrapple at $8 per pound.
Fire Chief Collin Alterio works at the Insurance Office with me so we have an order sheet here if you'd like to drop by or call in an order to 814-625-2488 during weekday office hours.
RYAN'S PROJECT
Ryan Young is planning his senior project to benefit the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek. Ryan is a special needs student and he's asking for donations and raising money to be able to pave the parking lot area at the FCC. Ryan wants to raise $12,800 for Eby Paving to do the project this spring. Ryan was at the FCC last Friday when the basket benefit for Nena Haines was happening and he was so pleased with those who gave towards his goal. A donation can was set out and he was handing out information about his senior project plans. Nearly $475 was collected for the paving project from your donations dropped into his can there.
Please contribute to Ryan's project so that he can meet his goal. Your tax-deductible donation can be mailed to Friendship Community Center, PO Box 218, Beech Creek, PA 16822 and put "Ryan's Paving Project" on the memo line. The paving will certainly benefit everyone who visits the FCC since the parking area now is stoned, uneven and sometimes muddy.
