New Love Center hands out food boxes in Renovo
RENOVO — Members of the community rallying around their neighbors during the COVID epidemic can be seen throughout the nation. Still, it’s a heartwarming gesture that may not only be needed but even lifesaving, so the gesture is always a place to see humanity at its finest.
The New Love Center out of Jersey Shore has become a bi-weekly staple in western Clinton County overseeing an amazing amount of food distribution to those needing assistance.
Friday’s event had seen the New Love Center prepared to hand out over 200 boxes of food, having already distributed boxes to 368 households at the Renovo Fire Department in previous weeks. The contents are different every time, with this week’s offering including five pound packs of hamburg and various grains and fruits and vegetables.
The New Love Center is currently able to secure the food free of charge from the state due to COVID-19, whereas they typically pay for the products. If the need for them to serve the community remains following the pandemic they are open to making their trips to Renovo a constant in some manner.
Of course such a massive amount of food requires a large amount of physical activity to set up and the New Love Center is joined by dozens in the community to sort and pass out the food. In addition to the Renovo Fire Department member’s representatives from: Citizen’s Hose Company of South Renovo, Keystone Central School District, Tri-County Church of Mill Hall, Renovo Borough, and Renovo Police Department all assist in the operation. Tony’s Hardware of Renovo provides their fork lift as well to unload the truck.
Vehicles are set up in double lanes all down Ontario Avenue as those needing food simply pull up to receive their items, loaded by volunteers in masks and gloves.
