TURN YOUR CLOCKS

Remember to "fall back" your clocks one hour on Saturday night. Happy Halloween!

Howard Fire Chief Collin Alterio reminds residents to install new batteries in your smoke detectors and test them to be sure they are properly working.

CHURCH

DINNER

Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard will be holding their annual chicken and waffles dinner on Friday, Nov. 6 from 4-7 p.m. Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, it will be take out/curbside pick-up only. The meal will include chicken, waffles, mashed potatoes, gravy, applesauce and dessert. The cost of the meal is a freewill offering donation that will be used towards the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox project.

Please text 814-826-4006 or call 570-962-2214 to place your order and receive your pick-up time. You can call your order in the same day but early orders will ensure that there's enough food to last.

Church helpers will bring your meal directly to your car. Instructions and traffic flow directions will be posted in the parking lot.

Liberty Baptist Church appreciates the community support in the past with this dinner and the shoebox project, and this year the church hopes for your continued support so that the shoeboxes can be packed and shipped to provide love and hope all over the world.

LIONS CLUB NEWS

Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution dates will be on Nov. 2 for those residents living in Centre County and on November 16 for residents of the Beech Creek area of Clinton County. Bring your empty box back each month for the Lions Club to refill and use on future distribution dates.

Toys for Tots will again be distributed through the Howard Area Lions Club in December. Those needing toys should be sure to ask for details from Lion Ron Davy at the November food bank dates.

Make plans to purchase a Lions Lottery Calendar for the 2021 year from any Lions member. I'm sure there will be some available during food bank dates for you to ask about and purchase there. The calendars are just $10 each and is a fundraiser that the Lions Club uses to help those in need in our local community.

At the Blood Drive in Howard on Oct. 14, 37 units of blood were collected. We need to get more blood donors involved. Please mark your calendar to become a blood donor at the next drive that will be held on Dec. 9 at the Howard fire hall. Our local Lions club will even provide transportation to and from the blood drives for you.

FOOD DRIVE

Howard Christian Church will be holding a food and personal hygiene drive to benefit the Haven Cupboard at Lock Haven University. Due to COVID-19 many students lost their part-time jobs so they have little money to eat. Some of these LHU students are now homeless, too.

Pastor Don Crane of Howard Christian Church knows personally of this need since he works at LHU. A donation box will be placed under the porch roof at the church at 367 Walnut St. for you to drop your donations off from now until Nov. 14.

Items that are especially needed are Ramen noodles, pasta sauce, canned chicken, tomato soup, granola bars, individually wrapped or bags of snacks, beef jerky, canned fruits and vegetables. Please be sure that the food items are not expired. Personal hygiene items that are needed are shampoo and conditioner, body wash and soap, deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, dental floss, toilet paper, paper towels and laundry pods.

If you have questions or would like to make a monetary donation for the church to help students at LHU please contact Sheri at 814-876-2910.

TRICK-R-TREAT

Beech Creek Wesleyan Church will hold a trunk or treat on Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. in the church parking lot at 217 Main St. in Beech Creek. People from the church congregation will be decorating their cars and handing out candy. COVID safety measures are being taken as you'll find those handing out candy with masks and gloves on. Pastor Alan Eckenroad can be reached at the church office at 570-962-2732 if you'd have questions or a spiritual need.

Howard Borough will have their trick or treating on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. Residents who are prepared to welcome trick or treaters should turn their porch lights on.

Contact Anita at 814-571-4160 for questions about Howard Halloween.

FIRE

FUNDRAISERS

Howard Fire Company has their gun raffle tickets available for sale. The gun drawing will be held on Nov. 14 from noon to 5 p.m. There are 20 cash and guns available to win. In case of COVID restrictions the drawing may be held virtually/online. Tickets are $10 each and available from any fire company member.

Walker Township Fire Company in Hublersburg is selling their gun raffle tickets now, too. The gun drawing was planned for Sept. 12 but had to be postponed until the spring. Keep your tickets as they will be honored for the spring drawing with the new date being announced in plenty of time. Tickets are $10 each and are available from any fire company member.

LEAF COLLECTION

Howard Borough offers free leaf collection for residents in town. You should rake your leaves to the curb and cover them if possible. Steve and Cody will be by on Monday or Tuesday to gather the leaves as their schedule allows. Residents should not rake their leaves over storm grates or around fire hydrants. Be sure that cars are removed from the area so that the leaf collection truck can access the piles of leaves without striking any vehicles.
