LIONS CLUB NEWS
Howard Area Lions Food Bank and Toys for Tots distribution for this month will be on Dec. 21. Food bank drive-thru hours are from noon to 3 p.m. You should stay in your car and wear a mask. Bring your empty boxes back for the workers to reuse each month.
Because of the COVID-19 restrictions you will need to complete the necessary paperwork to collect the toys on Dec. 21 and then you will need to wait patiently until the toys are brought to you. You need to wear a mask and stand back or return to your vehicle until your toys are brought out.
Please do not come for toys or food until noon because coming early will not speed the process up. The Lions Club workers will be giving out the food and toys from noon until 3 p.m. so you'll have plenty of time to be assisted without coming earlier.
I don't think the toys are wrapped this year because of the pandemic so you may want to leave the kiddos at home so they don't get a sneak peek at what might be under the tree for them.

The Lions Club is looking for a volunteer who can plow snow at the food bank headquarters this winter. If you have the equipment and would be willing to do the work please contact Ron Davy at 570-962-2407.
CANCELLATIONS
The Monument Festival Committee regretfully must cancel the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony because of the pandemic gathering restrictions. Anyone having any questions about the activities that are held in Monument may contact Roger or Mona at 570-962-2443.
Bald Eagle State Park has announced the cancellation of all in-person events and programs organized by the park staff and volunteers until further notice. This action has been taken by DCNR because of the rise in COVID-19 cases across the state. If you should have any questions about Bald Eagle State Park you may telephone the office directly at 814-625-2775.
DECORATING CONTEST
Howard Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a Happy "Howardays" Christmas Decorating Contest and wants Howard residents and businesses to participate in the first annual contest. Contestants can get creative using lights, 12-foot inflatables or whatever you can find to decorate your home or business for the holiday season. First and Second place winners will be voted on by the community.
The contest will run until Sunday, Dec. 13, and you must enter the contest by submitting your name and home address by emailing to howardparksandrec@gmail.com. Your house will not be eligible if you haven't registered to enter the contest using this website and your decorating must be done by Dec. 13 to be considered. This will give the committee time to have the community see the decorations and then be able to cast their votes.
On Saturday, Dec. 19, the winners will be determined. Bundle up and come to Veteran's Park (next to the post office) between 6-7 p.m. to cast your ballot for the best winners. Please practice social distancing and wear a mask when coming to vote. Treats and beverages will be served to those who come out to cast their ballots for the most favorite Happy Howardays home or business. Everyone is welcome to participate in the voting.
Brother's Pizza and the Kitchen Witch Cafe in Howard have been generous to offer the prizes for the contest winners.
