LIONS CLUB NEWS

Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution will be on Monday, Feb. 8, at the former Beech Creek Elementary School. Those residents living in Centre County of the local Lions servicing area can come for food bank aid from noon to 3 p.m.

The Lions Club is adding this distribution date because of the snow storm on Feb. 1 when many people didn’t brave the bad road conditions to pick up their food.

The Lions will also have the regular food bank distribution on Feb. 15 for those residents that live in the Beech Creek area of Clinton County.

You should stay in your car and wear a mask when approached by the food bank workers. Please be sure to bring your boxes back to the food bank so they can be reused at the next distribution dates.

Howard Lions Club will host a Red Cross Blood Drive on Feb. 10 from 1:30 to 7 p.m. at the Howard Fire Company. Become a blood donor this month and give the gift of life.

The Lions Club will not be having their annual Sweetheart Dinner this month because of the pandemic gathering restrictions.

SOUP SALE

Howard United Methodist Church will have a Take-Out Soup Sale on Thursday, Feb. 18, from 11 a.m. — 1 p.m. at the church. The soup flavors this month are vegetable beef; ham and bean; chicken corn and chicken noodle. The soup is $7 per quart and comes in freezable containers.

Soup should be pre-ordered by calling Patti Long at 814-625-2182 or send an email to PLO72@aol.com to let Patti know your name and quarts needed.

Please be sure to wear a mask and practice social distancing when picking up your soup.

WINTER REMINDERS

With snow in the forecast and colder temperatures settling in on us, please remember to check on your elderly neighbors and those who cannot get out regularly. Offer to pick up a few groceries for them and make sure that they are staying warm. It’s a nice idea to shovel the sidewalks for those who cannot do it for themselves.

Please remember to shovel out the fire hydrants during the wintertime so that the fire department can easily access the hydrants if needed. Even if the hydrants are not on your property, it’s always a good idea to take the time to clear the snow and ice away to aid the fire company.

Remember to keep your sidewalks cleared of ice and snow and put down some anti-skid material so that people are able to use the sidewalks without slipping or falling.

WINTER FESTIVAL

The Howard Cub Scouts and Boy Scout Troop 353 are planning a Winter Festival on March 13. The festival is free and will be held in Howard Community Park beginning at 11 a.m.

There will be food trucks, various vendors, games for the kids, raffles and entertainment for all ages.

There will be a special guest appearance by Woodraptor Bobby Gummo who will be donating a carved bench for one of the raffles during the day. For more info on the Winter Festival you may contact Patti Long at 814-625-2182.
