Roads to Peace holds special event in Triangle Park
CHRIS MORELLI/THE EXPRESS Roads to Peace held a special event in Triangle Park on Friday afternoon. There were positive messages written on the sidewalk and plenty of giveaways for those stopping by.
LOCK HAVEN — April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month throughout the country. In Clinton County, a special event was held in Triangle Park to offer support to those who need help.
The event was sponsored by Roads to Peace, formerly the Clinton County Women’s Center, which is located at 34 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
Balloons were set up, sidewalks were chalked with positive messages and the stage had a table filled with giveaways for those stopping by. The event was scheduled to run from around 11 a.m. until the early evening hours on Friday.
“With the pandemic and everything going on, we wanted to create a safe interactive event for the community to do,” explained Sarah Harnishfeger, volunteer and prevention education coordinator at Roads to Peace. “We have masks, hand sanitizer available, resources and some interactive activities.”
At Roads to Peace, a variety of services are offered for anyone who needs help.
“We help survivors of sexual or domestic violence. We provide all kinds of services, we have a 24-hour hotline, we have counseling, we have volunteer and prevention activities such as this one and we help anyone to empower themselves and free themselves of violence,” Harnishfeger said.
According to Harnishfeger, the organization believed that Friday would be a good day to have an event.
“We thought it would be a good day with people out in the community, walking around and whatnot. With everything being socially-distanced, we thought it would be good to leave it out all day and let community members have a chance to come out, look around and see everything,” Harnishfeger said.
