LOGANTON -- Chris Urban, from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, will provide a presentation on the Reptiles and Amphibians of the Fishing Creek Watershed on Aug. 29 at the Booneville Campground, near Loganton.
Chris is the chief of the natural diversity section and has spent his entire career conducting research on non-game aquatic species in Pennsylvania.
Chris is one of Pennsylvania's experts on Timber Rattlesnake biology and ecology and will discuss the snake's life and history including reproductive biology and the habitat requirements of this venomous species.
Chris will also talk about many of the turtles, frogs, salamanders and non-venomous snakes common to our watershed.
Chris will have live animals available and will answer questions about the diversity and abundance of this unique and fascinating group of organisms. He will also discuss native and non-native reptiles and amphibians in the watershed and in Pennsylvania.
The evening will begin with a free picnic dinner that is open to the public, courtesy of generous donors to the Sugar Valley Watershed Association. The picnic will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the program on Amphibians and Reptiles will begin at 6 p.m. While not necessary, if possible, please RSVP if you plan to come to the picnic or the program by emailing lucyheggenstaller@gmail.com or texting 570-295-9469.
The Sugar Valley Watershed Association is a 501c3 educational organization that has a mission to protect Fishing Creek by educating the community. The organization will hold its annual membership meeting following the Reptile and Amphibian program. Amendments to the organization's ByLaws will be voted on and the election of Officers and Directors will be included in the meeting.
