TROMBONES

Those amazing Penn State Trombones will be back in concert at Howard United Methodist Church this Sunday morning, March 26. The church service begins at 9 a.m. and everyone is welcome. Please consider bringing some cash to throw in the trombone case for them as an appreciation for their musical talents.

EGG HUNTS

Bald Eagle Valley Community United Methodist Church will host an outdoor Easter Egg Hunt on the church lawn on Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m. The egg hunt will be for children ages pre-school to 11 years old. The hunt will be held weather permitting.

Beech Creek Wesleyan Church will be having an egg hunt at the church on Sunday, April 2, at 1 p.m.

The Howard Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held on April 2, at 2 p.m. in Howard Community Park. The Easter Bunny will be there to meet and greet children before and afterward. Prizes will be awarded.

Millheim Fire Company will be having an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 0-12 at the pool grounds on Saturday, April 8. The Easter Bunny will be there posing for photos at 12:30 p.m. with the egg hunt beginning at 1 o'clock.

New Hope Fellowship Church will have an Easter Egg Hunt on April 8 at 11 a.m. In addition to Golden Egg prizes there will be food, games, face painting and a coloring contest at the church located at 6436 Nittany Valley Drive, Mill Hall.

Children should bring their own basket, bag or bucket to collect the eggs in for each of the egg hunts.

OPEN HOUSE

Howard Fire Company is planning an open house at the fire station on Saturday, March 25, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will be a special dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. to christen the two fire engines that were recently purchased. Stop by the fire station in Howard to see the fleet of apparatus.

Fire company officials will also be on hand to offer a membership application to those who may be interested in becoming a fire company member. If you'd like to become a trained firefighter, a fire police officer, an EMT or a supporting member that helps with catering events, cleaning and assisting firemen with truck room duties, then fire company members would love to talk to you about becoming a volunteer.

PALM SUNDAY BRUNCH

Millheim Fire Company will be having a Palm Sunday Brunch on April 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The menu will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, breakfast burritos, toast, breakfast casseroles, fresh fruit, baked goods and drinks. The cost is $12 for ages 13 and adults; $7 for ages 9 to 12; and those under age 8 can eat for free, but a donation for their meal would be welcomed.

SHOE BOX CELEBRATION

During 2022, the total number of shoe boxes collected for Operation Christmas Child in Crystal's central Pa. region was 11,510 -- some 754 more than the total collected in 2021. Overall, the worldwide shoe boxes filled with gifts that were collected were 10,599,907 for 2022.

A celebration meeting and dinner are planned on Monday, March 27, at 6 p.m. at the Park Forest United Methodist Church, 1833 Park Forest Village, State College, for anyone interested in being part of Operation Christmas Child's central Pa. team this year. SOUP SALE

Logan Grange #109, 122 N. Main St., Pleasant Gap, will be having a soup sale tomorrow, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The soup flavors are chicken corn noodle, vegetarian vegetable and chili for $9 a quart. CHURCH BAZAAR

Howard Christian Church will be having their Easter Bazaar on Saturday, April 1, at the church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lots of items will be available for sale during the bazaar. There will also be homemade ham pot pie for $9 a quart by pre-ordering only. Pot pie orders must be placed before March 30.

The church is also taking pre-orders for homemade peanut butter, coconut, mallow cup, orange creamsicle and butter pecan eggs from the "Easter Egg lady," Valerie Wynn. They're $2 a piece and pickup will be at the bazaar just like for the potpie. The last date to pre-order eggs is March 25.

Call Sheri at 814-876-2910 to place your pot pie and egg orders and for any questions. The proceeds from the bazaar will be used to assist the needs of local families.

COUNTRY JAM

The Back Porch String Band will be hosting their monthly Country Jam at the Yearick Center in Howard on Sunday, March 26, from 2-6 p.m. Bring your instrument and play along with others or just enjoy the afternoon of toe-tapping, hand-clapping tunes at the fire hall. Bring a snack or covered dish to share. A donation basket is passed with the proceeds given to the Howard Fire Company.

CRAFT SHOWS

On March 24 and March 25, there will be a craft show at the Titan Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

On April 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a craft show at the Old Gregg School in Spring Mills.

Lots of beautiful Easter decorations along with many other items will be on sale at both shows.

SPRING BAZAAR

Friendship Community Center will be having a spring bazaar this evening, March 24, from 6-9 p.m. and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The table spaces have all been claimed and there is a huge variety of vendors with everything from floral arrangements, mugs, dog treats, Easter candies, T-shirts, wooden crafts and more.

Valerie Wynn will also be there selling her many different flavors of Easter eggs, too!

The kitchen will be open and selling hot dog platters with your choices of sides (macaroni salad, potato salad and baked beans) with a drink for $7. Call Pam at 570-295-9592 for info.

CEMETERY NEWS

Many cemeteries will be holding their spring clean-ups. Please remove any decorations that you want to keep quickly, or the items will be removed and discarded for trash.

Romola Cemetery will hold its annual meeting on Monday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at the Romola Bible Church. We ask that old decorations be removed from the graves. Clean-up day will be set at the meeting. Call Ron at 814-625-2116 if you have any questions.

The annual meeting of the Schenck's Cemetery Association will be held on Wednesday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Howard United Methodist Church. All lot owners and interested persons are encouraged to attend. Call 814-625-2132 for more info.

Blanchard Baptist Cemetery will have clean up on March 30 or 31. Please remove items from graves that you want to save beforehand. The cemetery is also asking for monetary donations to help pay to keep the cemetery mowed and looking nice. Folks have always been very generous and for this we thank you.

BINGO EVENT

Liberty Curtin Elementary PTO Bingo will be held on March 26 at the Beech Creek Fire Co. social hall. Doors and the kitchen open at 11:30 a.m. and Bingo begins at 1 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. In addition to the Bingo there will be a Chinese auction, 50/50 and rip tickets.
