LOCK HAVEN -- The Kiwanis Club of Lock Haven is again, for the third year, accepting nominations for its annual Lee Phillips Community Service Award.
The award honors the late Lee Phillips, a long-time Kiwanian, business owner and civic volunteer who died in April 2020.
A friendly man of faith and loyalty to his community and friends, Phillips was a U.S. Army veteran who drove tank in U.S. Gen. George S. Patton Jr.'s Seventh Army in the France and Germany during World War II.
The Kiwanis Club of Lock Haven wants everyone to remember Lee so it established an annual award in his honor.
The first recipient of the honor last year was Joann Heimer, a retired school teacher who for years has advocated for trail development and expansion of outdoor recreation in Clinton County while volunteering to help with many events.
The second recipient was Margaret Riggle, who has been involved with the Pennsylvania State Flaming Foliage Festival for years and is a member of the Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park board of directors, serving the greater Renovo area and schools.
Phillips was the Kiwanis Club's longest standing member at his death… more than 60 years.
Nominations are accepted from the general public and Kiwanis members and encouraged through the club's Facebook page, email and the media. The award recipient must belong to, be affiliated with or be a member of a civic, charitable, business, volunteer, service, fraternal or any organization in Clinton County whose mission is the betterment and/or safety of the community. The recipient is an individual who reflects Lee Phillip's character as a "modest, unsung hero and positive role model" who is generally not in the public eye and whose contributions mostly go unrecognized by the public.
Nominations will be accepted until July 1, 2023, with the award presented at a club meeting in the fall.
