CANCELLATION
The Roland Curtin Foundation was planning a Family Fun Day on Sunday afternoon, April 30, but because of the rainy weather that is expected for the weekend the event is cancelled.
YARD SALES
Walker Meadows Development (in Walker Township) yard sale dates will be April 28 and 29.
Howard United Methodist Church's annual Yard Sale will be held May 4, 5 and 6. Thursday shopping hours will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 5-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday hours will be from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. A variety of items will be for sale including baked goods.
Howard town-wide yard sale dates are always the first Friday and Saturday in May, so that's May 5 and 6 this year. Sometimes people set up their sales on Thursday, too.
Milesburg's spring yard sale dates are May 12 and 13. The fall yard sale dates in Milesburg will be Oct. 6 and 7.
Howard Fire Company's Indoor Yard Sale will be on May 18-20. Drop off days are May 15-17 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Please feel free to let me know of additional community-wide or church yard sales that will be happening and I'll add them to our list.
PATRIOTS
PROGRAM
The Howard Grange is participating in the National Grange Patriots Program and needs the names of all the local (living) veterans who served during WWII, the Korean War or the Vietnam War. There will be an awards certificate ceremony, too! If you or someone you know is a veteran that qualifies, please send the veteran's name, address and phone number to anitamasden2015@gmail.com
REUNIONS
Descendants of Andrew Dill and Etta Confer will gather for a reunion on July 22 at noon at Pavilion #6 at Bald Eagle State Park. Please bring a covered dish to share and your choice of drink for the noon meal. Plates and silverware will be provided.
The family hasn't gathered for a few years, so Kaye is asking for donations instead of holding an auction. This will allow more time to visit since there is a lot of catching up to do. Please spread the word to all your family members so they can plan to attend this summer reunion.

HOWARD GRANGE
Howard Grange is selling Grange Fair tickets, so you can buy your season tickets from a Grange member. For each ticket that Howard Grange sells they will make $2.
The Grange is also selling PA State Grange 150th (1873-2023) Anniversary Cookbooks with over 450 pages of recipes from grange members. The cookbook is really nice and sells for $25.
The next Howard Grange meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Howard United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome to come and see what the new Howard Grange is all about. Each member brings a non-perishable item or two to keep the church's porch pantry stocked for residents who need an item during the month.

BINGOS
Centre Hall Fire Company Cash Bingo will be held on May 5 at the fire station at 134 N. Witmer Ave. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m. Early bird game and rip ticket chances start at 6:30 p.m. Regular Bingo games start at 7 p.m. Rip off tickets and food are available. This will be the last of the first Friday Bingo's until after the summer break is over.
Howard Area Lions Cash Bingo will be held on May 11 and May 25 before taking a summer break. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 6:30 p.m.
A benefit Bingo is being held for Paula Leathers on May 13 at KBR Bingo in the Piper Building, 1 Piper Way, Third Floor, Lock Haven. Elevator service is available.
Paula had been struggling with medical issues which led to her leg having to be amputated. Her husband, Keith, is now helping to take care of her and making sure she gets around and to all of her medical appointments. The couple needs some help with covering their household expenses (mortgage payment, electric and phone bills). Gas gift cards and grocery gift cards would also help the family out, too!
Doors open at 11 a.m. and Bingo begins at 1 p.m. The Bingo benefit will also feature a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese auction/basket raffle and rip ticket chances. The kitchen will be open, too!
Tickets for the benefit Bingo will be $20 and can be reserved by contacting Tiffany at 570-367-8316.
Donations of items for the Chinese auction/basket raffle are needed and will certainly be appreciated in helping the Leathers family.
WEEKEND EVENTS
Logan Grange #109 is having a soup sale tomorrow from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at their Grange hall located at 122 N. Main St., Pleasant Gap. Chicken corn noodle, ham and bean and stuffed peppers are the soup flavors for this sale at $9 for each quart. Pre-orders can be called in using 814-360-5756 or 814-404-1521.
A basket raffle will be held at the Friendship Community Center this evening from 6-9 p.m. and tomorrow, April 29, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., to raise funds to pay for the final expenses of Sandy Boob, the former FCC President who passed away on Feb. 4, 2023. Call Pam Hevner at 570-295-9592 with questions about Sandy's benefit or if you have a basket that needs picked up. If you win you'll get a call on Saturday afternoon.
Liberty Township Sportsmen's Club will host the annual Children's Fishing Derby at the club pond tomorrow morning. The fishing derby is for children ages 12 and under. LIONS NEWS
Howard Area Lions Club will have their Food Bank distribution on May 1 for Centre County residents and on May 15 for those living in Beech Creek Borough or BC Township. Food bank hours are from noon to 3 p.m.
Master Gardeners from Penn State will be at the Food Bank on May 15 to offer vegetable plants and flowers.
The Lions will have a Memorial Ceremony on May 26 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Foster Sayers Memorial near the spillway area of Sayers Dam. Be sure to check out the newest bricks in the Walk of Honor at the flags and Sayers statue site.
The Lions will be participating in the Memorial Day Parade on May 29. The parade will begin in Blanchard and end at the American Legion grounds in Beech Creek. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Lions should meet near the ballfields in Blanchard to prepare for parade line-up.
CHEER CLUB
The next meeting of Senior Cheer Club will be held on Thursday, May 4, at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek. Bring a covered dish to share for the noon luncheon. Anyone age 55 or older is welcome to join us!
LEGION NEWS
American Legion Post 623 in Beech Creek will be holding their spring cash and gun raffle at the Legion picnic grounds tomorrow from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Post 623 will be hosting the Memorial Day parade and will be holding cemetery memorial services, too. I'll have the times of each cemetery service in a few weeks for you.
There will also be a home decorating contest sponsored by the American Legion in a few weeks for those residents living in Liberty and Beech Creek Townships and the towns of Blanchard and Beech Creek. I'll have information to register your home to be judged a few days before the winners are announced on Memorial Day. Start planning your decorations now. You can use flowers, balloons, flags or anything to show your patriotism and gratefulness for those who fought and died for our freedom.
EMMANUEL UCC
Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Jacksonville is planning a special weekend of events at the church on May 6 and 7 that the public is invited to attend. Beginning on May 6 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. there will be an open house and a historical artifacts exhibition from the Jacksonville area. There will be old photographs of the church and the community for people to see and reminisce over.
There will be a basket raffle and refreshments to enjoy. At 6:30 p.m. there will be an old-fashioned hymn sing.
On Sunday, May 7, the morning worship service begins at 9 a.m. featuring special music and the sermon by Pastor Cindy Killinger. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a brunch to enjoy followed by a presentation at 1 p.m. about local artist Annie Snyder and her painting of the sanctuary mural. The mural is a beautiful work of art to see! Basket raffle winners will be drawn and announced on Sunday afternoon, too!

SYLVAN HILLS CAMP
On May 7, Sylvan Hills is excited to dedicate its new Children's Lodge at the conclusion of the Camp Kickoff. Anyone who has ever been a camper at the church camp over the years that it's been in existence is invited to attend the dedication service. The dedication is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the new lodge. Before the dedication, the Camp Kickoff (open house) will be running between 1-3 p.m. Please feel free to come out and enjoy lunch, music and visit with our volunteers!
