LOCK HAVEN — Picture 100 or more American flags in Triangle Park over Memorial Day weekend.

Now think of someone who would appreciate having their name on one of them.

The Flags of Honor program is a great way to recognize or remember someone special in your life — a teacher, an employee, a veteran, a soldier, a mentor, a first-responder who made a difference. Do you know someone who needs encouragement? Is there anyone you would like to thank but aren’t sure how to?

You can sponsor a flag, or more than one flag, for $35 each.

Sponsorships are coming in fast now, but you still have time. May 15 is the deadline for your order to be received.

The flags will fly in the park from Friday evening, May 26, until Tuesday evening, May 30.

Each full-sized flag flies on a 10-foot flagpole, and each pole holds a plaque with the name of the person it honors. Members of the public can be seen strolling through the park during the holiday weekend and reading the names as they walk by each flag.

The names of those honored and their sponsors will also be printed in The Express and in the official Flags of Honor booklet. Booklets will be available at the ceremony in the park on Sunday, May 28, at 12 noon.

Corporate sponsorships are available at $100. Corporate sponsors receive a window sign and are also recognized in The Express and the official booklet.

Flags of Honor is a project of the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven, with support from two “Angel Partners” this year, Nestlerode Contracting Co. and Signs and Designs of Mill Hall. Funds raised go to local nonprofit organizations.

To sponsor a flag, send $35 per flag with your name, address, phone number and email, along with the name and wording for the person you are honoring. The mailing address is Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven, P.O. Box 634, Lock Haven, PA 17745.
