KETTLE CREEK -- Members of God's Country Chapter Trout Unlimited, Kettle Creek Watershed Association and Native Fish Coalition Pennsylvania Chapter celebrated Earth Day with a litter pickup along Little Kettle Creek and state Routes 144/44.

A total of 17 individuals participated in the event. The group met at Kettle Creek Lodge and Cabins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22. They spent the next two hours collecting roughly 15 bags of garbage and various larger items between pull-offs along a 2.5-mile stretch of the road and stream.

"Stream cleanup events like this are a great way to bring attention to Earth Day and our organizations' ongoing conservation initiatives" said Andrew Mickey, Pa. NFC Chair, GCTU. "Litter is an ongoing source of pollution to our waterways and landscape that can be addressed relatively easily when people come together."

"It was a beautiful morning to bring our organizations together to enjoy the outdoors while providing a service to the watershed and the community. People recreating on Little Kettle Creek will now be able to enjoy the natural area without looking at unsightly trash along the banks. We hope this effort makes people think twice before littering," said Mickey. "We would like to thank the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Program and PennDOT for providing materials and disposing of the trash. The event was a big success and we will look to coordinate similar efforts in the future. Please consider joining one of our organizations if youád like to get more involved."

Those in attendance included, but is not limited to, Steve Benna, Kettle Creek Lodge; Laura Benna, Kettle Creek Lodge, GCTU; Andrew Mickey, PA NFC Chair, GCTU; Chris Mickey, PA NFC Vice Chair; Tom Malason, PA NFC; Chase Fuller; Philip Light, PA NFC; John Kosar, PA NFC; David Saulter, GCTU President; James Klee, GCTU; Mick Greeley, GCTU; Ralph Scherder, GCTU; and James Toth, KCWA President.
