‘Ekphrastic’: Station Gallery to host reception for popular exhibit on Friday

LOCK HAVEN -- The Station Gallery, 2 E. Bald Eagle St., Lock Haven, is hosting one of the Clinton County Arts Council's popular exhibits again this year.
"Ekphrastic" -- where poetry and art meet -- will feature art, paired with poetry by local artists. The exhibit will have an open house on Friday, June 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.
"We have explored this theme a couple of times before, and it has always been an amazing inspirational experience for poets and artists alike," CCAC Vice President Carol Cillo said.
Cillo said the event asked artists to give poets a piece of art, and poets to give artists a poem -- with the intention of creating a brand new piece of work from what they've been given.
"This creative sharing experience is a wonderful interplay of the arts, gives all the creatives special insight into the work of others and insight into how different people interpret different things," Cillo said. "It is always rewarding, surprising, mind-bending and inspiring."
Artists can explain why they interpreted the poem the way they did, and poets can talk about how they transformed an image into words. Poems will be mounted next to the artworks they accompany.
"We hope to have an open discussion time, and time for some poets to read their works out loud," Cillo said.
There will be 14 artists and 13 poets participating and showing their works together.
CCAC members hope everyone in the community will consider checking out this event at the Station Gallery, a true gem of arts and culture in Central PA.
Artists showing works will be: David Becker; Lynne Becker; Rita Bower; Steve Bower; Carol Cillo; Jennifer Deitloff; Karen Elias; Chuck Fong; Steve Getz; Elyse Goodman; Anni Matsick; Deborah Mezick; Deb Stabley; Jackie Thomas.
Poets showing works will be: Tiffany Bernard; Dana Ciciliot; Jim Colbert; Jared Conti; Ted Forbes; Noah Glynn; Aidan Gscheidle; Bre Hanley; Emily Smith Haywood; Anthony James LaLota; Marjorie Maddox; Josh Mozug; Ryan Douglas Rose.
The event is free and open to the public. It will run through July 8, when the Clinton County Arts Council will host another special event.
"Save that date for a professional watercolor demonstration by Brienne Brown! We'll tell you more about that later," Cillo said.
