FLEMINGTON -- Four local high school graduates were the recipients of a scholarship from the Flemington Hi-Neighbor Committee.

Caitlyn Shade, child of Bryan Shade, of Flemington, plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Studies and History.

In her application to the committee, Shade said she wants to make a lasting impact on every student she'll have in the future.

"For me, history is my favorite subject I've learned throughout these past 7 years from middle to high school," Shade wrote. "But my peers feel the opposite."

Shade said she wants to teach the upcoming generation "how important history is and how to comprehend it to prevent an event occurring against, or how we can strive to become history ourselves."

Jaelyn Tripp, child of Susan and Kevin Tripp, of Lock Haven, plans to attend Lock Haven University with a goal of receiving a degree in the healthcare profession.

"This degree will help me pursue my end goal of becoming a nurse," Tripp wrote. "My goals as a young adult were to always have a job in the healthcare field."

Tripp said receiving a degree in healthcare "will provide me with the basic foundation for having a career in the healthcare field."

Amy Sellers, child of Billy Sellers, of Lock Haven, plans to attend Delaware Valley University to receive a bachelor's degree.

"I have always loved animals and enjoyed being around them. By entering into a small animal science major, I will be given the privilege and honor to help and treat them through veterinarian services," Seller wrote.

Braylen Corter, child of Kadi and Wally Corter, of Flemington, plans to attend Penn State Dubois and major in Criminal Justice.

"I am very interested in a criminal justice degree because it can take me in many different directions," Corter wrote. "I am leaning towards being a probation officer, but I am excited to learn about other opportunities the degree has to offer."
