YARD SALES
100 Mile yard sale (Quehanna area) will be held today and tomorrow. My brother is working a construction job at the Quehanna Boot Camp and said that people already have their canopies and tables of yard sale items up and ready to go.
The 100 Mile yard sale runs through little towns and villages that include Pine Glen, Karthaus, Frenchville, Shawville, Sinnamahoning, Bennezette and Medix.

SHOEBOXES
We are having a project leadership workshop on July 29 from 10 a.m. until noon at Cedar Heights Church, 37 Cedar Heights, Mill Hall (along Route 64). This is an informational meeting to answer any questions about the project and will offer ideas on how to pack a shoebox for Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child. If you are new to the OCC project, we can help you get started with some supplies and brochures.
Also, we want you to think about a bus trip in November that we will be taking to the processing center and visiting the Billly Graham Library. If you have any questions let Genny or Crystal know. Genny is a church relations coordinator at the Hublersburg church where all of the local packed shoe boxes end up to be loaded onto trucks and shipped out, and her telephone number is 814-667-3857. SPORTSMAN'S CLUB
Liberty Township Sportsman's Association is holding muzzleloader shoots every second Saturday of the month. The next shoot is Aug. 12. Sign-ups at 9 a.m. and shooting starts at 9:30 a.m. The shoots are open to the public. Bring your own eye and ear protection to all shoots.
Overnight camping is available at the Sportsman's Club grounds. Call Dawn 570-660-7901 to reserve your spot. There are 14 overnight camp sites available at $40 each night that includes power and water. A bath house is on premises, too. There is also 19 acres for primitive camping for $25 each night.
On Aug. 19, at the Club grounds there will be the first Masonic 50 Sporting Clay Shoot. Registration is from 8-11 a.m. with the entry fee being $50. Lock Haven Hospitaller Commandery #46 is hosting the shoot and giving away cash prizes and a Mossberg International Silver Reserve Eventide. Shooting starts at 9 a.m. Bring your own eye and ear protection.
There will also be a Cash Bingo at the clubhouse beginning at 11 a.m. with cash prizes, basket raffle and 50/50 drawings. Food sales will be held from the clubhouse kitchen all day. Pulled pork and ham barbecue along with lots of other food items will be available.

CONCERTS
Lamar Lighthouse Camp is having their summer concerts on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. On July 23 The Needhams will be singing. The Hyssongs will be entertaining on July 30. The concerts are free to attend, but a love offering is taken during the service. Lamar Lighthouse Campground is located along Route 64 in Lamar. For more info call Lynette at 570-337-0203.
Summer at Curtin
Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village is hosting Sunday afternoon tours on the second and fourth Sunday in July, August and September. This year, visitors can select a guided walking tour or an expanded tour option that provides greater interpretation of the importance of the site, its evolution, the industrial process and the lifestyles of the people who worked and lived at Curtin contributing to its 112 years of operation as a significant iron making plantation in the Juniata Iron District. Donations are gratefully appreciated in lieu of an entrance fee.
Coming up on July 23 is "Cool Off at Curtin" with free ice cream for the first 25 tour guests to sign in. All tours start at 2 p.m.
Heritage Weekend at Curtin will be Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26, and 27. On Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Roland Curtin Foundation will host Victorian Photography Studio from Gettysburg, Pa., who will stage Civil War era photos using period clothing and props. These photos will be taken as they were done in the mid-1800s using the wet plate collodion process, often referenced as a tintype. Capture your family's image or yours as it would have happened in 1860. Reservations and a fee are required to receive a Victorian era photo. The reservation forms will be available soon. Other unique photo opportunities will be available with the historic Curtin excursion wagon and Gov. Andrew Gregg Curtin's "Victoria" carriage.
Presentations will be given on Saturday afternoon to explain the wet plate collodion process and the development of film photography in the 20th century from cabinet cards through Polaroid photos.
Sunday afternoon, Aug. 27, is family history day and guests will be offered opportunities to trace their ancestors with the help of seasoned genealogists. Tours of the historic buildings will also be available on Sunday.

LIONS NEWS
The Howard Area Lions Annual Father & Son Steak Night will be held on Aug. 1 at the Yearick Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. Howard Lions members and their sons can eat free, but guests will be charged a small fee for the meal.
Food Bank dates for August will be on the 7th for Centre County residents in the Lions servicing area and on the 21st for residents living in the Beech Creek area of Clinton County.
The Lions will host a blood drive at the Howard Fire Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 1-6 p.m.
DUCKSTOCK
Duckstock is being held today and all day tomorrow in Milesburg at the American Legion grounds. There will be lots of fun for the whole family, games, raffles, 50/50's, music and food.
Food trucks are there this evening along with a couple of local bands. Tomorrow there will be a pig roast and bean soup at 5 p.m. with a covered dish carry-in meal, more music and Chinese lanterns and fireworks at dusk.
Admission is canned food and non-perishable items for the Milesburg Food Bank.
Duckstock honors the memory of Lester 'Ducky' Walk and all those who have loved and lost someone.

PUBLIC
MEETING
The Howard Fire Company will be hosting a public meeting at the fire company's Yearick Center to discuss the fire tax that is collected for the fire company. The meeting will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m.
Fire company officials will be discussing the fire department's financial status, current apparatus and future apparatus, as well as many other topics. The fire company services Howard Borough and the townships of Curtin, Howard and Marian. Most municipalities have a fire tax established. The mil rate varies a bit and has recently been raised in Marion Township.
This meeting will be an opportunity for the fire department to talk about the tax and explain what it is used for, and to answer any questions the public has.
COUNTRY JAM
Back Porch String Band will be having their monthly Country Jam at the Yearick Center (Howard Fire Hall) on Sunday, July 23. Bring your instrument and strum along or just sit and enjoy the music. Bring a snack to share for the afternoon of toe-tapping, hand clapping tunes from 2-6 p.m. A donation basket is passed with the funds collected benefitting the Howard Fire Company.
CRAFT FAIRS
The Village Eating House Fair in Pine Glen will be held today and tomorrow, July 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
Craft vendors will be set up at the Clinton County Fair from July 29 through Aug. 5.
Bellefonte Craft Fair is on Aug. 4-5 this year.
The Tyrone Festival with many craft vendors is scheduled for Aug. 5.
REUNIONS
Descendants of Andrew Dill and Etta Confer will gather for a reunion on July 22 at noon at Pavilion #6 at Bald Eagle State Park. Please bring a covered dish to share and your choice of drink for the noon meal. Plates and silverware will be provided.
ICE CREAM
SOCIAL
Treat yourself to an old-fashioned ice cream social sponsored by the Nittany/Sugar Valley United Methodist Charge. The social is planned for Saturday, July 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the Booneville Campground. In addition to homemade ice cream and pie there will also be hamburgers, hot dogs and hot sausages.
A special treat will be Trumpeter Chiz Rider with performances from 4:30-5 p.m. and again from 5:30-6 p.m.
