Guided Hands Project comes to Renovo

RENOVO -- Tyrone McClain brought his “The Guided Hands Project” to Renovo.

McClain recently held a back to school event that offered free backpacks filled with school supplies to kids that stopped by a game-filled style picnic on Ontario Avenue.

McClain, whose work first introduced him to the area several years ago, has run the program typically with friends near the Pittsburgh area, but wanted to expand its boundaries.

The afternoon of fun was free for all that stopped by. Many children came in with their parents to pick up their backpacks, but the majority stuck around for a few hours enjoying a cookout, water slip and slide, snow cones and cotton candy.

McClain said that local help -- Shannon Bruno, who offered the location to hold the event, and Erin O’Brien who helped to organize the event -- made the day go much smoother for him. Even unexpected volunteers like Bentley Winkelman helped out by taking over the cotton candy making.
