SPORTSMAN'S CLUB
Liberty Township Sportsman's Association is partnering with the Lock Haven Masonic group for events being held at the Sportsman's Club grounds tomorrow. There will be the first Masonic 50 Sporting Clay Shoot with registration from 8-11 a.m. The entry fee being $50. Lock Haven Hospitaller Commandery #46 is giving away cash prizes and a Mossberg International Silver Reserve Eventide. Shooting starts at 9 a.m. Bring your own eye and ear protection to all shoots.
There will also be a Cash Bingo at the clubhouse beginning at 11 a.m. with cash prizes, basket raffle and 50/50 drawings. Food sales will be held from the clubhouse kitchen all day.

LIBRARY EVENTS
Friendship Community Library in Beech Creek is holding Art Classes with George Stefanski on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28. The Monday classes are from 4:30-6 p.m. Anyone who is serious about learning to draw or who may be looking to improve their skills is invited to attend the classes. Classes are free and supplies will be provided. No registration is necessary. The side door entrance will be unlocked for handicapped access. The art classes will continue each Monday in September, too.
On Aug. 22 there will be a family movie night featuring Disney's "Princess and the Frog." Popcorn will be available and drinks with lids will be allowed. The movie starts at 4:30 p.m.
Movies for adults will be featured in September. Perhaps you've read the book already, but want to see if the movie is better. The movie for Sept. 7 is "Where the Crawdad's Sing." The movie starts at 4 p.m. The movie on Sept. 14 will be "A Man Called Otto." SUNDAY CONCERTS
Lamar Lighthouse Camp is having their summer concerts on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. On Aug. 20 the concert will be given by Adam's Voice. Concerts are free, but a love offering is taken during the service. Lamar Lighthouse Campground is located along Route 64 in Lamar.
LIONS NEWS
Howard Area Lions Food distribution will be on Aug. 28 for residents living in the Beech Creek area of Clinton County and those in Centre County who missed their distribution earlier this month. Notice that this is a change from the regularly scheduled distribution which would have been on Aug. 21. The Lions members are parking cars at Grange Fair during the week and many won't be here on Aug. 21, so they've rescheduled their distribution for Monday, Aug. 28. Food distribution is given out at the former Beech Creek Elementary from noon until 3 p.m. Those who are new to the food aid program will need to take a few moments to complete the necessary paperwork.
Mark your calendar, the food bank distribution for Centre County residents will be on Sept. 11 (changed because of Labor Day) and on Sept. 18 for Beech Creek area residents.
Lions Club Bingo will resume on Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall.
FIRE CO. EVENTS
Many fire companies in our area will be holding gun (and cash) raffles during the next few months. Tickets are $10 each and are on sale now from members or at local businesses.
Pleasant Gap Fire Company's raffle is on Sept. 16 at the Robinson Lane carnival grounds. Port Matilda Fire Company is also having their raffle on Sept. 16.
Citizen's Hook & Ladder in Milesburg will hold their raffle on Oct. 7.
Walker Township Fire Company in Hublersburg will host their raffle at the fire station on Oct. 21 and Howard Fire Company's raffle will be on Nov. 11.
Miles Township (Rebersburg) Fire Company is having a Cornhole Tournament on Sept. 23. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. and bags fly at 11:30 a.m. Team cost is $50 to enter. Spectator's cover charge is $5. Top three winners in both the competitive and social brackets will be awarded. Food, drinks, raffles and music will be available. KBR BINGOS
Keystone Babe Ruth & More has special Bingo dates to help local organizations and individuals who may be going through a rough time. On Sunday, Aug. 20, a benefit Bingo will be held to support the Central Mountain Majorettes and on Sept. 10 the Bingo will benefit Haven Performing Arts. Doors open at 11 a.m. and games start at 1 p.m.
Bingo is also held every Tuesday evening to benefit Keystone Babe Ruth Baseball. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m. The Early Bird game is at 6:15 p.m. and regular Bingo games begin at 6:30 p.m. KBR Bingo is held on the third floor (elevator available) of the Piper Museum building in Lock Haven. COUNTRY JAM
Back Porch String Band will be having their monthly Country Jam at the Yearick Center (Howard Fire Hall) on Sunday, Aug. 27. Bring your instrument and strum along or just sit and enjoy the music. Bring a snack to share for the afternoon of toe-tapping, hand clapping tunes from 2-6 p.m. A donation basket is passed with the funds collected benefitting the Howard Fire Company.
SUMMER AT CURTIN
Heritage Weekend at Curtin will be Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26, and 27. On Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Roland Curtin Foundation will host Victorian Photography Studio from Gettysburg, Pa., who will stage Civil War era photos using period clothing and props. These photos will be taken as they were done in the mid-1800s using the wet plate collodion process, often referenced as a tintype. Capture your family's image or yours as it would have happened in 1860. Reservations and a fee are required to receive a Victorian era photo. The reservation forms for both Saturday and Sunday photos are now available. Other unique photo opportunities will be available with the historic Curtin excursion wagon and Gov. Andrew Gregg Curtin's "Victoria" carriage. Presentations will be given on Saturday afternoon to explain the wet plate collodion process and the development of film photography in the 20th century from cabinet cards through Polaroid photos.
During the weekend there will be a Signature quilt exhibit and discussion.
Sunday afternoon from 1-5 p.m. will be a family history day and guests will be offered opportunities to trace their ancestors with the help of seasoned genealogists. Tours of the historic buildings will also be available. Tours of the mansion will be on Sunday starting at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Iron furnace tours will be on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
This year, visitors can select a guided walking tour or an expanded tour option that provides greater interpretation of the importance of the site, its evolution, the industrial process and the lifestyles of the people who worked and lived at Curtin. For gps reasons, Curtin Village is located at 251 Curtin Road, Howard. Donations are gratefully appreciated in lieu of an entrance fee. CLUB RAFFLE
Central Bald Eagle Fish & Game Association in Mount Eagle will be having their annual cash and gun raffle on Sept. 16 from noon to 5 p.m. at the old school clubhouse. Tickets are $10 and on sale now. Call Tom Bomboy at 814-280-2961 or Buck at 814-280-2959 for more info.
