Madisonburg's town wide yard sales are being held today and tomorrow, Sept. 8-9.
Milesburg's fall yard sale dates will be Oct. 6-7.
LIBRARY EVENTS
Friendship Community Library in Beech Creek is holding free art classes with George Stefanski each Monday in September. Classes are from 4:30-6 p.m.
Technical support with your computer, tablet or cell phone is offered by Claire each Tuesday evening during September from 6-7 p.m.
Adult movies will be featured on Thursday's at 4 p.m. Perhaps you've read the book already, but want to see if the movie is better. The movie for Sept. 14 will be "A Man Called Otto." Popcorn is available, but bring your own drink in a container with a lid to prevent spills.

CONCERTS
Lamar Lighthouse Camp is having their summer concerts on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. On Sept. 10 the concert will feature Texas Star. The final concert of this summer's series will be given by Gloryway on Sept. 17. Concerts are free, but a love offering is taken during the service. Lamar Lighthouse Campground is located along Route 64 in Lamar.
TASTE OF TIDE
Join with the Gospel Tide and members of the Marsh Creek and Cedar Heights churches for a Taste of the Tide Mediterranean meal. The meal will be on Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. at the Cedar Heights Brethren in Christ Church in Mill Hall. The meal is free and will feature Mediterranean food along with a Gospel Tide presentation. Monetary donations will be accepted to support Gospel Tide in spreading God's word through the Mediterranean area.

SOUP SALE
Summer has come to a close and now it's time to settle back into the routine of monthly soup sales at Howard United Methodist Church. The first sale of the season will be on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the church located at 144 W. Main St., in Howard.
Soup is available to eat in or for take-outs in quart, freezable containers for $8.
Dine in for lunch and get your soup, rolls, a piece of pie and drink for the same price. Pre-orders for take-outs should be phoned to Patti at 814-625-2182 before Sept. 18.
Proceeds from soup sales are designated to local missions in the area.
NUT SALE
Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard is holding their annual Terri Lynn Nut Sale now and until Sept. 24. To see an order form or for more info you may call Joyce Beaty at 570-962-3355. Pickup will be in mid-October.
POT PIE SALE
Bald Eagle Valley Community United Methodist Church is starting up their pot pie sales after taking a summer break. The first sale will be Monday, Sept. 11, and pick-up is in the parking lot beginning at 4 p.m. The congregation bakers aren't doing the bread this year, so it will just be the quarts of ham or chicken pot pie for $8. It's best to pre-order yours by calling Janette at 814-883-0893. Walk-in sales are welcome, until sold out. The church is located at 111 Runville Road, Bellefonte, just behind the Sheetz store in Wingate.
OCC
SHOEBOXES
It's getting time to start thinking about packing a shoe box (or two) for Operation Christmas Child. Last November the local program run from the Trinity Church in Hublersburg was able to ship out over 11,000 shoe boxes to be distributed by Samaritan's Purse to children all over the world.
With stores offering sales on school supplies, now is a good opportunity for getting many of the items that children like to get in the Christmas shoe boxes. I always put pens, pencils, colored pencils, erasers, glue sticks, notebooks, crayons and a coloring book along with hygiene items and toys that kid's will like in the shoeboxes that I pack each year.
If you're new to OCC and would like to have Crystal Haagen visit your club or organization just let her know and she'll be happy to accommodate. Crystal came last fall to our Cheer Club meeting to tell us about her two experiences of going overseas to hand out shoe boxes. Crystal is the Central Pa. area coordinator for the OCC shoe box program. She can be reached at 814-876-0705 or 814-383-4719. Also, think about going along on a bus trip that Crystal and other volunteers will be taking to help at the processing center and to visit the Billy Graham Library on Nov. 27-29. More details on the bus trip will be coming in a few weeks.
LIONS NEWS
Mark your calendar that Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution for Centre County residents will be on Sept. 11 (changed because of Labor Day) and on Sept. 18 for Beech Creek area residents. Food bank aid is given out from noon until 3 p.m. at the former Beech Creek Elementary. Bring your sturdy boxes back each month to be reused for food distributions.
Lions Club Bingo will resume on Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. Doors and the kitchen are open at 5:30 p.m., and Bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.
CHURCH IN THE PARK
Howard United Methodist Church invites you to join them for Church in the Park on Sunday, Sept. 10. There won't be services in the church unless bad weather, but the services will be held at Howard's West End Park pavilion beginning at 9 a.m. Dress casual. After the service there will be an early pot luck lunch. Bring a covered dish to share along with your own drink and table settings. All are welcome!
CAN TABS
Save your aluminum tabs from the tops of soda and beer cans for Liberty Curtin Elementary to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Send the tabs in with any student or teacher, or keep saving them until the end of the school year and then drop them off at school. I find Ziploc bags of them here and there in my mailbox from people who save them and drive by my house.
There's no reason not to save them when we know they are a huge benefit for families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House when their children have to be in those advanced care hospitals.
CLUB RAFFLE
Central Bald Eagle Fish & Game Association in Mount Eagle will be having their annual cash and gun raffle on Sept. 16 from noon to 5 p.m. at the old school clubhouse. Tickets are $10 and are on sale now. Call Tom Bomboy at 814-280-2961.
LION
HONOREES
Make your reservations soon for the Howard Area Lions breakfast being held to honor some of their club members. Family, friends and fellow Lions are invited to attend this breakfast. The Lions breakfast will be on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m., at the Brotherhood Park, Richner Hollow Road, Howard. The Pleasant Valley Church's Ladies Aid will provide the buffet breakfast meal. The honorees and their spouses will attend free, but other guests will be expected to pay $10 to offset the cost of their meal. Please reply to Fred Kellerman at 814-441-9270 before Sept. 9 with your reservation to attend so that ample food can be prepared.
The Lions Club members gave nominations for the Melvin Jones Award and the Pennsylvania Fellowship Award and the top vote getters are being honored at this breakfast.
Blair Confer and Leo Klinfelter will be receiving the Melvin Jones Award, while Denny Bechdel, Paul Confer and Max Young will be presented with the Pennsylvania Fellowship Award. Congratulations to each of these Howard Area Lions members on receiving these awards!
FIRE CO. EVENTS
Many fire companies in our area will be holding gun (and cash) raffles during the next few months. Tickets are $10 each and are on sale now from members or at local businesses.
Pleasant Gap Fire Company's raffle is on Sept. 16 at the Robinson Lane carnival grounds. Port Matilda Fire Company is also having their raffle on Sept. 16.
Citizen's Hook & Ladder in Milesburg will hold their raffle on Oct. 7.
Walker Township Fire Company in Hublersburg will host their raffle at the fire station on Oct. 21 and Howard Fire Company's raffle will be on Nov. 11.
Miles Township (Rebersburg) Fire Company is having a Cornhole Tournament on Sept. 23. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. and bags fly at 11:30 a.m. Team cost is $50 to enter. Spectator's cover charge is $5. Top three winners in both the competitive and social brackets will be awarded. Food, drinks, raffles and music will be available.
