SPORTSMEN'S CLUB
Liberty Township Sportsmen's Association has some upcoming events that you may be interested in this month. Tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the club house will be the general meeting of all members. Nominations for officers will be held at this time. Nominate yourself or others that you feel would do a great job for the club.
On Sept. 23 there will be a sporting clay shoot with 50 targets. Sign ups are at 9:30 a.m. and the shoot runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Bring your own eye and ear protection!
On Sept. 30 there will be a turkey shoot at 1 p.m. Registration is at noon. The cost is $13 and prizes are awarded.

BATTLE OF
THE BARREL
Centre Hall Fire Company is holding a benefit fundraiser for fireman Greg Yearick and his family. The benefit will be on Saturday, Sept. 23, beginning at noon at the fire station. Get together a team of any four people to compete in the battle of the barrel and come support this fundraiser! Teams of four will be charged $15 entry fee. You don't need to be involved with a fire department to participate. All hoses and apparatus will be provided for you. Children are invited, too! And if there's enough kids then they can have their own battle teams.
Spectators are also invited to come out and support the fundraiser. There will also be food, a Chinese auction and rip tickets. Donations towards the auction will gladly be accepted and cash donations for the family will surely be appreciated. Call Brian at 814-762-4036 or send an email to him at b25moore@yahoo.com.
Greg Yearick suffered a massive heart attack in June and has had extensive cardiac surgeries since. He hasn't been able to work and volunteer as a firemen as he did before, so this benefit is going to help him and his family tremendously.
LIBRARY EVENTS
Friendship Community Library in Beech Creek is holding free art classes with George Stefanski each Monday in September. Classes are from 4:30-6 p.m.
Technical support with your computer, tablet or cell phone is offered by Claire each Tuesday evening during September from 6-7 p.m.
Adult movies will be featured on Thursday's at 4 p.m. Perhaps you've read the book already, but want to see if the movie is better. Popcorn is available, but bring your own drink in a container with a lid to prevent spills. The adult movie for Sept. 21 will be "The Glass Castle" and on Sept. 28 the adult movie will be "The Lost Husband."
On Sept. 26 there will be a kid's movie, the New Super Mario Bros. Bring the kiddos to this movie that starts at 3:30 p.m. Popcorn will be provided, but drinks you bring must have a lid to prevent spills.

CONCERTS
Lamar Lighthouse Camp was having their summer concerts on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m., but sadly summer has come to a close. The last concert of this summer will be given by Gloryway on Sept. 17. The concert is free to attend, but a love offering is taken during the service. Lamar Lighthouse Campground is located along Route 64 in Lamar.
TASTE OF TIDE
Join with the Gospel Tide and members of the Marsh Creek and Cedar Heights churches for a Taste of the Tide Mediterranean meal. The meal will be on Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. at the Cedar Heights Brethren in Christ Church in Mill Hall. The meal is free and will feature Mediterranean food along with a Gospel Tide presentation. Monetary donations will be accepted to support Gospel Tide in spreading God's word through the Mediterranean area.

CASH BINGO
The Clinton/Centre County Baseball Hall of Fame is hosting a Cash Bingo fundraiser at the Beech Creek Fire Company Social Hall on Sunday, Oct. 29. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and Bingo begins at 1 p.m. The tickets will be $25 with only 100 tickets being sold.
In addition to Bingo there will be food, raffle basket prizes, rip tickets and a 50/50 drawing. Tickets can be reserved by calling Terry at 814-422-8030 or 607-368-0108 before Oct. 20.
SOUP SALE
Summer has come to a close and now it's time to settle back into the routine of monthly soup sales at Howard United Methodist Church. The first sale of the season will be on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the church located at 144 W. Main St., in Howard.
Soup is available to eat in or for take-outs in quart, freezable containers for $8.
Dine in for lunch and get your soup, rolls, a piece of pie and drink for the same price. Pre-orders for take-outs should be phoned to Patti at 814-625-2182 before Sept. 18.
Proceeds from soup sales are designated to local missions in the area.
NUT SALE
Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard is holding their annual Terri Lynn Nut Sale now and until Sept. 24. To see an order form or for more info you may call Joyce Beaty at 570-962-3355. Pickup will be in mid-October.
BASKET RAFFLE
There will be a Mom Boss Basket Raffle on Sept. 23 from 4-7 p.m. at the John Yost Community Center, 180 Bennage Avenue, Lock Haven. Several gift cards and baskets have already been donated, but more are needed to make this benefit a success! If you or your business can provide a gift card or basket donation please call Amy at 814-979-6108. The grand prize is a wonderful adventure for the family to Lake Tobias Wildlife Park.
LIONS NEWS
Mark your calendar that Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution will be on Sept. 18 for Beech Creek area residents and those in Centre County who missed their distribution earlier this month. Food bank aid is given out from noon until 3 p.m. at the former Beech Creek Elementary. Bring your sturdy boxes back each month to be reused for food distributions.
CLUB RAFFLE
Central Bald Eagle Fish & Game Association in Mount Eagle will be having their annual cash and gun raffle on Sept. 16 from noon to 5 p.m. at the old school clubhouse. Tickets are $10 and are on sale now. Call Tom Bomboy at 814-280-2961.
WINE FEST
Haven's Wicked Wine Fest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 12-5 p.m., at the Castanea Fire Company picnic grounds. Over 10 wineries will be uncorking their bottles for the wine tasting. LION
HONOREES
Make your reservations soon for the Howard Area Lions breakfast being held to honor some of their club members. Family, friends and fellow Lions are invited to attend this breakfast. The Lions breakfast will be on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m., at the Brotherhood Park, Richner Hollow Road, Howard. The Pleasant Valley Church's Ladies Aid will provide the buffet breakfast meal. The honorees and their spouses will attend free, but other guests will be expected to pay $10 to offset the cost of their meal. Please reply to Fred Kellerman at 814-441-9270 with your reservation to attend so that ample food can be prepared.
The Lions Club members gave nominations for the Melvin Jones Award and the Pennsylvania Fellowship Award and the top vote getters are being honored at this breakfast.
Blair Confer and Leo Klinfelter will be receiving the Melvin Jones Award, while Denny Bechdel, Paul Confer and Max Young will be presented with the Pennsylvania Fellowship Award.
Congratulations to each of these Howard Area Lions members on receiving these awards!
COUNTRY JAM
Back Porch String Band will be having their monthly Country Jam at the Yearick Center (Howard Fire Hall) on Sunday, Sept. 24. Bring your instrument and strum along or just sit and enjoy the music. Bring a snack to share for the afternoon of toe-tapping, hand clapping tunes from 2-6 p.m. A donation basket is passed with the funds collected benefitting the Howard Fire Company.
FIRE CO. EVENTS
Many fire companies in our area will be holding gun (and cash) raffles this weekend and during the next few months. Tickets are $10 each and are on sale now from members or at local businesses.
Pleasant Gap Fire Company's raffle is on Sept. 16 at the Robinson Lane carnival grounds. Port Matilda Fire Company is also having their raffle on Sept. 16.
Citizen's Hook & Ladder in Milesburg will hold their raffle on Oct. 7.
Cornhole Tournament
Walker Township Fire Company in Hublersburg will host their raffle at the fire station on Oct. 21 and Howard Fire Company's raffle will be on Nov. 11.
Miles Township (Rebersburg) Fire Company is having a Cornhole Tournament on Sept. 23. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. and bags fly at 11:30 a.m. Team cost is $50 to enter. Spectator's cover charge is $5. Top three winners in both the competitive and social brackets will be awarded. Food, drinks, raffles and music will be available.
