The Lamar Township Volunteer Fire Co. will have a new ceiling and much better lighting in its fire station bays in Salona, thanks to a $10,920 grant from the Clinton County Community Foundation Inc. The grant has allowed the fire company to replace its ceiling in the bays, part of which was falling down. Plus, it will pay for installation of all new lighting, making the space safer, said Kaitlin Toner, fire company treasurer. The fire company’s coverage area encompasses 41 square miles, including 58 miles of Interstate 80. In 2022, the company responded to well over 400 calls, including structure and brush fires, accidents, hazardous material spills, service and medical emergencies.
