CHEER CLUB
Senior Cheer Club will meet for a potluck luncheon and meeting on Thursday, Nov. 2, at noon, at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek.
There were 20 members at the last meeting. Anyone who wants to donate items for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes should bring them to the meeting. Last year the group was able to fill 10 boxes.
Happy Birthday to those who celebrated during the month of October -- Larry Butler, Pam Slaterbeck and Mary Hanley.
Bingo games were played at the last meeting so there will be a Chinese Auction for November. Bring an item for the auction.
Fred Yost brought the door prize last month that was won by Tami Van Horn, who will bring a door prize gift for the November meeting.
Anyone age 55 or older is invited to Cheer Club for food, fellowship and fun!
LEARNING HOME SKILLS
If you're interested in learning or sharing traditional homesteading skills that our parents and grandparents used, come on Thursday, Nov. 9, and on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., to the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek.
Learn more about what homesteading is: cooking from scratch, short cuts, what to do with your food and where to get it, preserving (canning, fermenting, etc), soap making and so much more. Become part of a growing community that wants to learn how to take care of themselves and their families. Light refreshments are shared -- many times that food is related to the topic of the month. Last month homemade cheese was made and shared.

HALLOWEEN PARADE
Howard Parks and Recreation Committee will host a Halloween Parade on Oct. 31 beginning at 5 p.m. Parade participants should dress in costume and come to the Howard fire hall before 5 p.m. The parade will begin promptly at 5 p.m., led by Howard Fire Company's fire engine.
Trick or Treating in Howard will be held following the parade from 6-8 p.m. Residents who are prepared to hand out treats to children should turn their outside lights on.
FALL BAZAAR
Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek will be holding a fall bazaar this evening from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Many craft vendors will be there. Homemade bean soup will be available from the kitchen on Saturday.
FREE YARD SALE
New Hope Lutheran Church will be holding a free clothing give-away on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church located at 119 Cobblestone Court, Spring Mills.
In addition to the clothing there will also be Christmas items, house wares, toys and more.

SAUSAGE SALE
Millheim Fire Company is having their annual sausage sale. Salt and pepper sausage will be sold either loose or stuffed for $4.50 per pound. Pans of scrapple will also be sold for $4.50 each. Orders should be called to 814-470-1510 before Nov. 8. Pickup of orders will be on Nov. 16-17.
CASH BINGOS
On Oct. 28 a benefit Bingo to help Jennifer Johnson will be held at KBR Bingo, located in the Piper Museum's 3rd floor Bingo hall.
The Clinton/Centre County Baseball Hall of Fame is hosting a Cash Bingo fundraiser at the Beech Creek Fire Company Social Hall on Sunday, Oct. 29. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and Bingo begins at 1 p.m. The tickets will be $25 with only 100 tickets being sold. There's only a limited supply of tickets left yet!
In addition to Bingo there will be food, raffle basket prizes, rip tickets and a 50/50 drawing. Tickets can be reserved by calling Terry at 814-422-8030.
Rebellion soft ball will be having a Cash Bingo on Nov. 19 at the Howard fire station.
Doors open at noon and games begin at 1 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available by calling or texting 814-482-0736. In addition to Bingo there will be rip tickets, raffles and homemade foods, snacks and drinks available from the kitchen.
FIRE CO. EVENTS
Centre Hall Fire Company's (134 N. Witmer Avenue) monthly Bingo will be held on Nov. 3 and will continue to be held on the first Friday of each month through May 2024. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Early bird games are at 6:30 p.m. and regular games start at 7 p.m. Food and rip tickets are also available.
Howard Fire Company's gun raffle will be on Nov. 11 from noon to 5 p.m.
Mark your calendar for Breakfast with Santa at Centre Hall Fire Company on Dec. 16.
Millheim Fire Company has tickets for their cash and gun raffle for next April on sale. Tickets are $20 or 6/$100. See any fire company member to purchase your tickets.
POT PIE SALE
Bald Eagle Valley Community United Methodist Church is having a pot pie sale on Monday, Nov. 13, and pick-up is in the parking lot beginning at 4 p.m. Quarts of ham or chicken pot pie are sold for $8. It's best to pre-order so you're sure to get by calling Janette at 814-883-0893. Walk-in sales are welcome, until sold out. The church is located at 111 Runville Road, Bellefonte, just behind the Sheetz store in Wingate.
LIONS NEWS
Howard Area Lions Club wants to thank all those who contributed to their White Cane collection earlier in October when they were set up in Beech Creek. Nearly $500 was collected for Centre Foresight to support programs for the blind.
The Lions Club collects used eye glasses that are then given to under priviledged people around the world. If you have old eye glasses consider giving them to the Lions. There's a drop off box in the foyer of the bank in Beech Creek and you can bring the glasses to any food distribution or Bingo event happening during the year.
The Lions Club has a medical equipment program where you can borrow items to use free of charge. Items like walkers, canes, wheel chairs, hospital beds, shower chairs and portable bedside potties are loaned out when someone needs them. If you have these types of items that you can donate to the Lions please let us know. If you have borrowed items and are no longer using them please return them to the Lions so that others may borrow them.
The Lions Club has several fundraisers going on that help them raise money to support individuals and groups in our area. Weis gift cards can be purchased for the face value and then used at the local Weis stores. The Lions earn funds for each gift card they sell.
The Lions also have their 2024 Lottery calendars on sale. The calendars are $10 each and are good for winning during the whole year. They make great stocking stuffers or last minute gift ideas. Contact Lion Lloyd at 814-355-1776 for Weis cards or lottery chances or see any Lion member for them.
Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution will be on Nov. 6 for Centre County residents and on Nov. 20 for residents that live in the Beech Creek area. Food bank distribution is from noon until 3 p.m. at the former BC Elementary school. Bring your sturdy boxes back each month to reuse.
You'll notice the Lions will be building a roof over the staging area at their food bank headquarters. This will help keep our Lions and the food dryer. Since colder temperatures will be coming in the next few months, the Lions ask that you come to distributions as soon after 12 p.m. as you can so that if there's a lull in those coming for food that the Lions can pack up early to get out of the cold and wind.
The Lions will be planning a thank you dinner for all of the volunteers who assisted with parking cars during Grange Fair.
Lions Bingo dates for next month will be on Nov. 9 and Nov. 16. Usually Bingo is held on the second and fourth Thursday's of the month, but since Thanksgiving is on a Bingo night the date has been changed to Nov. 16. Doors of the BC Fire Company's social hall open at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 6:30 p.m. The jackpots are climbing!
Howard Area Lions will hold their monthly dinner meeting on Nov. 7 at Faith Chapel in Hunter Run. The Lions business meeting will be held at the Yearick Center in Howard on Nov. 21.
Howard Area Lions Club is 93 members strong, but there's still room for you to become involved! If you have a desire to serve others and to become a part of an organization that is recognized locally as well as nationally and internationally then the Lions Club is for you! Men and women are invited to obtain an application and become a Howard Area Lion today! You don't have to live in Howard to be a member -- club members hail from all over our local area -- stretching from Hublersburg to Snow Shoe, from Lock Haven to Julian, and all those little towns and hollows in between.
PTO BINGO
Liberty Curtin Elementary will be having a Holiday Cash Bingo on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the BC-B Fire Company social hall. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and Bingo starts at 1 p.m. Tickets are $25 early or $30 at the door. Get your tickets at the Beech Creek Borough office during office hours or by calling Jamie at 570-367-8827.
FALL FESTIVALS
Talleyrand Park will have a fall festival on Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There's a Halloween Parade at 10:30 a.m. beginning at the Bellefonte Elementary School. In addition to craft and food vendors there will be lots of activities for children to enjoy.
Moshannon Community Center will have a fall festival beginning at 9 a.m. on Nov. 4
There will be a Winter Craft Fair at the Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church in Port Matilda (the Stormstown area) on Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
