HOLIDAY SALE
There will be a holiday yard and bake sale at St. John Catholic School on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Sunday morning, Nov. 19, from 7 a.m. to noon. Hosted by the Catholic Daughter's, this annual Advent Sale will also include lots of baked goods and a food basket raffle.

SPORTSMEN'S CLUB
Liberty Township Sportsmen's Association will hold their general membership meeting on Monday, Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the club house along Marsh Creek Road in Howard. All members are encouraged to attend. Voting for board members and corporate officers will be held at this meeting. For more info about the LTSA you may visit the website at libertysportsmen.com.
MILLER PARTY
The descendants of Wilson and Hazel Miller will gather for their annual Miller Christmas Party on Dec. 2 at Brotherhood Park in Marsh Creek. Bring a hot and cold covered dish to share for the meal at 6 p.m. Table settings and drinks will be provided. After the meal Santa will be coming so bring a wrapped gift for your children. There will also be prize drawings so bring some cash to participate.
The family takes turns to organize the party and reunion. This year it's the family of Ray and Isabelle Miller who will be hosting the event. For more info or questions call Lorraine at 814-777-4176 or Evon at 814-777-2734.
Remember to mark your 2024 calendar that the reunion will be held on May 25 at noon at Bill Rogers' pavilion.
CASH BINGO
Rebellion Softball will be having a Cash Bingo on Nov. 19 at the Howard fire station.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and games begin at 1 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available by calling or texting 814-482-0736. In addition to Bingo there will be rip tickets, raffles and homemade foods, snacks and drinks available from the kitchen.
FREE MEAL
Howard United Methodist Church is offering a free community holiday meal at the church on Saturday, Dec. 2. Meals are available by take-out or by dining in, but there are certain times for being served.
Take-out meals must be preordered and can be picked up only from 4-5 p.m. Meals must be preordered before Sunday, Nov. 26, by calling Patti at 814-625-2182.
Dine-in only meals will be served from 5:15-7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall located at 144 W. Main St., Howard.
The meal includes roast pork, mashed potatoes with gravy, filling, vegetables, cole slaw, apple sauce and a dessert.
LIONS NEWS
Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution will be on Nov. 20 for residents that live in the Beech Creek area and those from Centre County who missed their distribution earlier this month. Food bank distribution is from noon until 3 p.m. at the former BC Elementary school. Bring your sturdy boxes back each month to reuse.
Centre County residents include those living in Blanchard, Howard, Hunter Run, Hublersburg, Lamar, Marsh Creek, Mount Eagle, Monument and Orviston that are part of the Lions servicing area. There are other food banks in the area that those with food needs should visit that are closer to their homes.
The Lions business meeting will be held at the Yearick Center in Howard on Nov. 21.
Howard Area Lions hosts a cash Bingo on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at the Beech Creek Fire Company social building. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 6:30 p.m. More Lions are needed to help in the kitchen and with selling rip tickets before and during the Bingo until intermission is over. If you can help, come from 6-8 p.m.
Howard Area Lions will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Dec. 6 at the J. K. Yearick Center in Howard from 1:30-6 p.m. Appointments can be made by visiting the Red Cross blood drive site. Walk-in donors are welcome. Please become a regular blood donor at the fire hall.
The Lions Club has several fundraisers going on that help them raise money to support individuals and groups in our area. Weis gift cards can be purchased for the face value and then used at the local Weis stores. The Lions earn funds for each gift card they sell.
The Lions also have their 2024 Lottery calendars on sale. The calendars are $10 each and are good for winning during the whole year. Contact Lion Lloyd at 814-355-1776 for Weis cards or lottery chances or see any Lion member for them.
OPEN HOUSE
There will be an open house at Ridge and Valley Woodworking on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and again on Nov. 27-29 from noon to 6 p.m. Featured are beautiful cutting boards, trays, coat racks, tables and more. The open house will be held at 191 Haagen Lane in Beech Creek.
COUNTRY JAM
Country Jam at the Howard Fire Hall will be held on Sunday, Nov. 26. Hosted by the Back Porch String Band, the Country Jam is held on the fourth Sunday of each month (except in December). Bring your instrument and strum along or just sit and enjoy the music. Bring a snack to share for the afternoon of toe-tapping, hand clapping tunes from 2-6 p.m. A donation basket is passed with the funds collected benefitting the Howard Fire Company.
There will not be a Country Jam in December because of Christmas.
CANDLE WALK
Marsh Creek BIC Church will be having their Christmas Candle Walk service on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. This tradition was started more than 70 years ago by Cora Buckwalter. Service organizers are asking that each of "the girls" who participated in any of the candle walks over the years be a part of the service. Last year the candle walk was rekindled with great participation and a really nice service.

CHRISTMAS AT CURTIN
The decorated Curtin Mansion will be open for pop-up holiday photos from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 3, followed by an evening of holiday merriment beginning at 5 p.m.
The theme is A Century of Christmas at Curtin. Decorations are typical of the 1850s during the heyday of iron making and the 1950s near the end of the Curtin family's residency. The decorations provide for two wonderful vintage backdrop settings for holiday photos. Share your phone and volunteers will be happy to take your family photos for you. Monetary donations are requested to benefit the Roland Curtin Foundation.
In the early evening, there will be a reading of Dylan Thomas's "A Child's Christmas in Wales", and the first-ever lighting ceremony to Light Curtin at Night. Enjoy local wines, ciders and nonalcoholic options. Advanced reservations for the reading are required due to limited seating. The cost is $30 per person for this special evening in Curtin Mansion. This fundraiser supports the non-profit Roland Curtin Foundation's efforts to acquire Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village and preserve its remarkable story of iron making and life on a central Pennsylvania iron plantation.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
There will be a Christmas Bazaar featuring many craft vendors, and a soup and sandwich sale along with baked goods, on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at New Hope Lutheran Church along Route 45 in the Spring Mills area. All are welcome!
