New year, new programs at the Ross Library

2 min read

LOCK HAVEN -- The Ross Library will be collecting and distributing scarves, hats and gloves to those in need throughout January in their Winter Warmth Exchange. A box will be available in the library. Anyone willing to donate gently-used items may place them in the box, and those in need may help themselves.

On Saturday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m., author Jeff Frazier will discuss and sign volume two of his new series about ancient and hidden rock formations in Pennsylvania, "Pennsylvania Mountain Landmarks." His speech will focus largely on landmarks popularized by Clinton County writer and folklorist Henry Wharton Shoemaker.

At 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, Dr. Mick Smyer will hold "Your Climate Journey," an interactive workshop about helping the environment. Participants will learn how to select a place they care about, determine ways to preserve and protect it and make a commitment to act.

Movies are shown at the Ross Library every month. On the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., the library shows a different movie. The movies will be shown on the third floor of the library, with popcorn available. On Jan. 18, the movie will be "Knives Out."

Jan. 25 is Voters' Day. On that day, a manned booth in the lobby will assist people who would like to register to vote. The library is open to register at all times, but personal help will be available, and people can register to vote by mail, get an absentee ballot or register in Spanish.

On the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m., join the Ross Library for Adult Storytime. Each month, a volunteer will read a different short story to adults 18 and up. Snacks will be provided. The next session will be on Jan. 9.

"Saturday Crafternoons" is a crafting program ordinarily held on the last Saturday of each month, but not in November or December because of the holidays. Each session begins at 12:30 p.m. with a simple craft. On Jan. 27, the craft will be puzzle bookmarks, and on Feb. 24 it will be yarn dolls.
