Nothing like new shoes and boots; Foundation grant helps Shoe Bank provide kids, teens with footwear

Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank volunteer board members recently took time to thank the Clinton County Community Foundation for a 2023 grant that allowed the nonprofit to provide free, new shoes and boots to eligible kids and teens. According to Shoe Bank volunteers, over the past 17 years, the Shoe Bank has been giving free new shoes to eligible kids and teens whose families live anywhere in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin School attendance area. Families must have an active Compass app or letter. Over the past 12 months (December 2022 through November 2023), the Shoe Bank had 433 client visits; gave away 543 pairs of shoes or boots; saw a 15% increase in client visits and a 20% increase of new clients coming to the group for the first time. "We saw more families with large numbers of kids and teens than we did before," Doherty said.
