CEF BANQUET
Child Evangelism Fellowship of the Centre Region is holding their annual fundraising banquet on March 1 at Calvary Harvest Fields in State College. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the banquet begins at 6 p.m. Tickets to the banquet are $15 per person. Reservations must be made before Feb. 23 at cefcentrecounty.org, by emailing cefcentreregion@gmail.com or by calling 814-482-8300.
The guest speaker for the banquet will be Peter Krol, an author/speaker, president of Disciplemakers and the preaching pastor of Grace Fellowship Church.
Proceeds from this 2024 fundraiser will help CEF reach the children, the classroom and the community of the Centre region.
DANCING LESSONS
Centre County Ballroom will sponsor a ballroom dance on Sunday, March 10, from 2-5 p.m., at Lambert Hall, 303 Forge Road, Bellefonte. The dance starts with a hustle lesson from 2-2:30 p.m. Dancing will follow until 5 p.m. Cost is $10/person, bring your own drink and a snack to share. Chances are someone else wants to go dancing, too, but they don't want to go it alone, so ask a friend and learn to dance while having an afternoon of fellowship. There are other singles there who would be happy to be your dance partner for the afternoon. For more info text 717-543-8348.
LIONS NEWS
The Ferguson Township Lions Club in Pine Grove Mills is having a Friday Soup Sale today, Feb. 16, from 3-6 p.m. Preorders can be ordered by calling 814-238-6695. The sale will be by take-out only and the cost will be $8 for each quart. The soup flavors are broccoli cheese, cheeseburger, ham and bean, potato, vegetable beef and vegan tomato bisque.
Howard Area Lions Food Bank dates of distribution will be on Feb. 19 for those individuals who live in Beech Creek Borough and BC Township and Centre County residents living in the Lions servicing area who missed their distribution earlier this month. Please remember to bring your sturdy boxes back each month.
Howard Area Lions will hold their Lions Bingo at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall on Feb. 22. Doors and the kitchen open at 5:30 p.m. and Bingo begins at 6:30 p.m.
Milesburg Lions Club holds their Bingo every Thursday evening at the Milesburg Community Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6:45 p.m.
Bellefonte Lions Club is selling chances for a Cash and Meat raffle. There are various bundles of meats (featuring bacon, beef and chicken meats) along with cash prizes being offered. The tickets are bargain priced at 3 for $10 or $5 each. Meat prizes can be picked up at Mark's Custom Meats in Lamar. Winners will be drawn and notified on May 8.

FIREWORKS DINNER
The Orviston Community Club is planning to have a chicken and waffles dinner on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 3:30-6 p.m., at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. The cost is $10 for both the dine-in and take-out meals that will be available. Place your take-out orders by calling Dave at 814-404-0357. The proceeds from this meal will be used to purchase the fireworks for the Orviston Community Celebration that will be held on July 13.
WEDDING DINNERS
Millheim Fire Company will host a traditional Amish Wedding Dinner on March 2 from 3:30-7 p.m. The buffet style, all you can eat menu includes turkey, filling, mashed potatoes, gravy, buttered noodles, creamed celery, vegetable pizza, cole slaw, apple sauce, homemade pies, homemade ice cream and more. The dine-in prices will be $18 for adults, $8 for children ages 6-12 and the little tykes ages five and under eat free. Take-out meals are also sold at $18 each.
The dinner will be prepared by members of the Penns Valley Amish community and served at the Millheim fire hall that's located at 103-105 North St., Millheim. The proceeds from the meal will benefit the fire company's rescue program. Call Delmer at 814-883-2238 for more info.
The Nittany Valley Amish will be holding a benefit dinner at the Walker Township fire hall in Hublersburg on Saturday, March 23, from noon to 7 p.m. The traditional Amish wedding meal will feature roasted chicken and ham, mashed potatoes, baked beans, noodles, cakes, pies, Nan's doughnuts, pudding, ice cream and more along with lemonade and coffee. You may choose your dining time slot by the hour. The time slot from 5-6 p.m. is usually the busiest, so you may have to wait to be seated during this hour. Take-out meals are available, too. Prices are $19 for those age 65 and over; $21 for ages 18-64; $19 for ages 11-17; and $8 for children ages 5-10. Little ones can eat for free. Walk-ins are welcome, but you may have to wait to be seated, so it's best to call Sylvia at 814-380-2499 or Dorothy at 814-380-2021 to reserve your dining time slot. Proceeds from this Amish buffet dinner will go towards the Amish schools in the area. The Amish community does not accept government aid for their schools, so this event will help to provide the supplies needed for the children attending the Amish schools.
GIVE KIDS A SMILE
In honor of National Children's Dental Health Awareness Month in February, the CPI dental students and clinic staff along with community dental volunteers will be providing FREE dental exams, coronal polishing, x-rays, sealants, restorations and fluoride treatments to Centre County children ages 0-17 whose families cannot afford dental care. The event will take place at CPI, 540 N. Harrison Road, Pleasant Gap, on Feb. 23, from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Appointments are required and can be made by calling CPI at 814-359-2793, ext. 222, or by sending an email to mtobias@cpi.edu
WINTER FESTIVAL
The 4th Annual Howard Winter Festival is planned for Saturday, March 9, at Howard Community Park. A rain/snow date of March 16 has also been announced in case Mother Nature doesn't cooperate.
Craft vendors are needed for the event. A vendor space is $20 and you must provide your own tent/canopies and tables. This is an outdoor event that takes place from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. In addition to numerous food and craft vendors, there will also be horse drawn carriage rides, a chili cook-off (this year the chili cook-off is open to all scouting troops), a basket raffle and a host of outdoor activities. Dress warm and come to support the local Howard Scout Troop 353.

COYOTE HUNT
Liberty Township Sportsmen's Association will be holding a coyote hunt Feb. 23-25, 2024. In addition to the hunt, there will be a vendor show at the club house. Vendors must be of the flea market type selling hunting, fishing or camping items only. Vendor hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
The club house kitchen will be open during the flea market days, too. Rip tickets and a 50/50 raffle will also be sold each day.

Mail-in registrations for the coyote hunt will also be accepted, and must be received before 5 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2024.
Walk-in registrations will be done at the club house from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18.
The coyote hunt will be held in accordance with federal and state laws. Any objections or comments should be addressed to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
SHOE DRIVE
The push is on to collect new and gently used shoes for The Gospel Tide's "Your Soles for Their Souls" campaign. Locally, the Marsh Creek Brethren in Christ Church is gathering shoes, sneakers, sandals and boots for The Tide's mission. Footwear of all sizes ranging from youth to adults will be accepted, as long as they are new or in really good condition.
The Tide's goal this year is to collect 5,000 pairs of shoes, but thus far there haven't been nearly enough pairs collected to reach the goal. This is the third year that the Marsh Creek BIC Church has participated in the Gospel Tide's Shoe Drive. Last year the shoe drive netted 4,032 pairs collected from some 24 churches who participated, surpassing The Tide's goal of hoping for 4,000 pairs to be collected.
Marsh Creek's shoe liaison, Bonnie Young, wants to have all the shoes collected by the end of February and then she plans to box them up and transport them to The Gospel Tide's office in Carlisle on March 4. Bonnie lives just below Beech Creek, and there are also other congregation members spread out from Lamar, Mill Hall, Howard, Orviston, Bellefonte and Julian that can meet to pick up your donated shoes.
So take a minute and check your closets and find those shoes that you haven't worn for a while and consider donating them. Call Bonnie at 570-962-2665 to arrange for local pick-up.

FAMILY NIGHT
Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard is having a Family Fun Night at the church on Friday, Feb. 23. The event is free and features fun, food and games for all ages. The church has a really nice gym so there will be basketball and volleyball, and there's a social hall for others to sit to play board games and to fellowship and enjoy refreshments. The event begins at 6 p.m. and would be a good outing for families looking for something fun to do on a Friday evening.
