HOWARD -- Howard Fire Company is draped with black cloth to honor one of their own comrades.
The fire fighting gear of Richard "Rich" Kelley has been positioned in front of the fire station as a memorial to honor him and his life as a fire company volunteer and a respected community member.
Kelley, 56, of Howard, was instructing an Emergency Medical Responders class at the fire station when he was suddenly stricken and rushed to the hospital where he passed away on Feb. 8, 2024.
Kelley dedicated more than 30 years of his life to serving others and his community.
Through the Emergency Medical Services, including volunteering as an EMT/paramedic and firefighter, as well as holding many different EMS careers and leadership roles in various organizations, his contributions are countless and unmeasurable.
At the time of Kelley's death he had held the title of Emergency Medical Service Manager at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Rich leaves behind his wife, Teresa, and their four children, as well as numerous extended family members, friends and colleagues.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 4-8 p.m., at Lambert Hall in Bellefonte, and again on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. until noon at Lambert Hall, 303 Forge Road, Bellefonte, followed by a funeral service beginning at noon with Pastor David Pencek of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Snydertown officiating.
Graveside services will immediately follow the funeral service at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Bellefonte.
