Takac to host series of Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program sign-up events

By From Staff Reports 2 min read

Expanding on his already solid record of constituent-focused initiatives, state Rep. Paul Takac, D-Centre, announced he'll host a series of Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program seminars in Centre County throughout the next several weeks.

"The expansion of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program was one of the many prominent legislative victories from last year," Takac said. "I'm proud to champion the expansion of this program and work to sign up as many seniors and those who are eligible in our community as possible."

The series of Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program clinics will be held at the following times, dates and locations:

-- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Snow Shoe Township Building, 268 Oldside Road, Clarence, Pa., 16829.

-- 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Takac's District Office, 216 W. Hamilton Ave., State College, Pa., 16801.

-- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Howard United Methodist Church, 144 W. Main St., Howard, Pa., 16841.

-- Noon to 3 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the Boggs Township Building, 1290 Runville Road, Bellefonte, Pa., 16823.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians 65 or older; widows and widowers 50 or older; and people with disabilities 18 or older. The expansion of the program will allow an additional 175,000 Pennsylvanians to qualify for rebates by raising the income-eligibility limit to $45,000 for both homeowners and renters. It is important to note that, prior to last year's expansion, the income limits for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program had not been raised in over a decade and a half.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is one of five programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery. Since the program's inception in 1971, older and disabled adults have received more than $7.6 billion in property tax and rent relief. The rebate program also receives funding from slots gaming.

To file for a rebate during the sign-up event, applicants should bring proof of all income from 2023, including Social Security Income, documentation of benefits from pensions and annuities, and all other miscellaneous forms of income received in 2023. Homeowners must bring proof of all 2023 property tax bills. Renters must submit the PA Rent Certificate, along with total 2023 rent paid.
