PROM DRESS EVENT
Bald Eagle Area High School will have their annual Prom Dress Event on Thursday, March 7, from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. Students are given the opportunity to pick a prom dress for their upcoming dance free of charge. There is a huge selection of pre-worn dresses to choose from and there are dress coats for guys to select from, too!
If anyone has dresses or gowns to donate please make sure they are brought to the school before March 7.

WEDDING DINNER
Millheim Fire Company will host a traditional Amish Wedding Dinner on March 2 from 3:30-7 p.m. The buffet style, all you can eat menu includes turkey, filling, mashed potatoes, gravy, buttered noodles, creamed celery, vegetable pizza, cole slaw, apple sauce, homemade pies, homemade ice cream and more. The dine-in prices will be $18 for adults, $8 for children ages 6-12 and the little tykes ages five and under eat free. Take-out meals are also sold at $18 each.
The dinner will be prepared by members of the Penns Valley Amish community and served at the Millheim fire hall that's located at 103-105 North St., Millheim. The proceeds from the meal will benefit the fire company's rescue program. Call Delmer at 814-883-2238 for more info.
CLOTHING AND MORE
The Light of the World Clothing Bank at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 145 W. Linn St., Bellefonte, will be open on Friday, March 1, from 2:30-5 p.m. and on Saturday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to noon. Clothing (winter and spring) sizes for everyone from babies to adults, towels, blankets, sheets, some beautiful handmade afghans, shoes, purses and more. Everything is FREE! NAME CHANGE
Wingate Faith Church (formerly Bald Eagle Valley Community United Methodist Church) will have a ham or chicken pot pie sale (with homemade bread) on Monday, March 11, starting at 4 p.m. The potpie is $8 a quart and comes in freezable containers. Pre-ordering is best by calling Janette at 814-883-0893. Walk-in sales will be honored until all are sold out. Pot pie orders can be picked up by drive-thru in the church parking lot.
Wingate Faith Church will be holding an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 30, beginning at 11 a.m. The hunt is for children up to age 11. The hunt is outdoors on the church grounds, so dress for the weather!

DANCING LESSONS
Centre County Ballroom will sponsor a ballroom dance on Sunday, March 10, from 2-5 p.m., at Lambert Hall, 303 Forge Road, Bellefonte. The dance starts with a hustle lesson from 2-2:30 p.m. Dancing will follow until 5 p.m. Cost is $10/person, bring your own drink and a snack to share. Chances are someone else wants to go dancing, too, but they don't want to go it alone, so ask a friend and learn to dance while having an afternoon of fellowship. DOWN'S DANCE
The Centre Region Down Syndrome Society is hosting a dance to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on Thursday, March 21, at the Bellefonte Area Middle School cafeteria, from 5-8 p.m.
Come share in the fun with food, a photo booth, Nittany Entertainment DJ, games and crafts. Rock your crazy designed or mismatched socks. The dance is for all ages and is free with an RSVP at www.centreregiondownsyndrome.org or pay $5 at the door. For more info call Jen at 814-380-0942.
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on the 21st day of the third month of the year (3-21), signifying the unique triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. This day is observed around the world to help raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome and how people with Down syndrome play a role in our communities. It is said that chromosomes are shaped like little socks, so we love sporting crazy or mismatched socks that day as our unique tradition and to spark conversation!
LIONS NEWS
Milesburg Lions Club holds their Bingo every Thursday evening at the Milesburg Community Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6:45 p.m.
Howard Area Lions has a medical equipment program available to the community where they loan items free of charge to individuals needing them. Items include canes, walkers, wheel chairs, portable potty chairs, shower chairs and hospital beds to name a few. If anyone has these items in good condition to donate to the Lions Club so that more people can be helped, please contact Lion Dwayne Haines at 570-962-2939.
Howard Area Lions Food Bank will hold their distribution on Monday, March 4, from noon to 3 p.m., at food bank headquarters in the former Beech Creek Elementary. Residents living in Centre County in the areas of Blanchard, Howard, Hunter Run, Lamar, Marsh Creek, Monument, Mount Eagle and Orviston are eligible to obtain food bank aid from the Lions Club. Be sure to bring your sturdy boxes back to reuse for future distributions.
Howard Area Lions will hold their Lions Bingo at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall on March 14 and March 28. Doors and the kitchen open at 5:30 p.m. and Bingo begins at 6:30 p.m.
Bellefonte Lions Club is selling chances for a Cash and Meat raffle. There are various bundles of meats (featuring bacon, beef and chicken meats) along with cash prizes being offered. The tickets are bargain priced at 3 for $10 or $5 each. Meat prizes can be picked up at Mark's Custom Meats in Lamar. Winners will be drawn and notified on May 8.

CHEER CLUB
Senior Cheer Club will be starting up again on Thursday, March 7, at the Friendship Community Center on Main Street in Beech Creek. The club didn't meet during January or February because of cold weather, but we're anxious to get started again to welcome spring and see our friends there!
Senior Cheer Club is for anyone age 55 and over who would like to attend, no matter where you live. Bring a covered dish to share for the noon luncheon and your own drink. Dues are just $2 a month which covers the cost of the building rent and the tableware.
This month we will be playing Bingo so bring a wrapped item (new or used) as a prize. Give Cheer Club a try -- we have members from Howard, Blanchard, Beech Creek, Bellefonte, Lamar and Mill Hall. Call Larry at 570-726-6635 or Fay at 570-962-2080 for more info.
FIRE NEWS
Word has spread through the community about Joe Shaffer being diagnosed with cancer and is now taking chemo treatments. Joe's six-year-old niece, Kinsley Lose, has picked up on the seriousness of the situation from the grownups around her, and she wants to do something special to show her support and love for her Uncle Joe. Kinsley will be celebrating her seventh birthday on March 17 and for her birthday she wants to wear a different fire company T-shirt each day during the month of March. Her mother, Samantha Prisk, is asking that fire companies all across the state (and beyond) rally behind Kinsley and Joe by sending her an adult small sized fire company T-shirt (or hoodie since it's still a little chilly outdoors) that Kinsley can wear during March. Centre Hall Fire Company is holding their first Friday of the month Bingo on March 1 at the fire station. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; early bird game starts at 6:30 p.m. and regular Bingo kicks off at 7 p.m. You can also get your tickets for the fire company's gun raffle that will be held in May at this Bingo.
Millheim Fire Company has tickets for their cash and gun raffle planned in April on sale now. Tickets are $20 or bargain priced at 6/$100. Tickets will be available at the Amish Wedding Supper being held at the fire station on March 2 or from any fire company member.
Sugar Valley Fire Company is having a Breakfast Buffet on March 9 from 6:30-10 a.m. All you can eat for $14 for adults and $7 for children. Kids five years and under eat free. The buffet will include scrapple, bacon, sausage, pancakes, eggs, biscuits and gravy, tater tots, drinks and donuts.
EGG HUNTS
Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at the Benner Township Municipal Building, 1224 Buffalo Run Road, Bellefonte, on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the egg hunt there will be games and refreshments. Call Gloria at 814-360-5675 or visit the church on Facebook at GBRVUMC.
The annual Easter Egg Hunt at Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte will be held on Saturday, March 30. Sponsor activities begin at 1 p.m. and the egg picking is set for 2 p.m. The Egg Hunt is for ages 12 and under. There is an area for special needs children to participate as well. More than 15,000 eggs and other prizes will be up for grabs at this egg hunt. Call Mary at 814-574-3240 for more info as the event draws closer.
WINTER FESTIVAL
The 4th Annual Howard Winter Festival is planned for Saturday, March 9, at Howard Community Park. A rain/snow date of March 16 has also been announced in case Mother Nature doesn't cooperate.
This is an outdoor event that takes place from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. featuring nearly 50 food and craft vendors selling their wares as well as raffles and a host of outdoor activities. There will also be horse drawn carriage rides with only a few spots left for reservations. If your family is interested in a carriage ride you'll need to call Patti quickly to see if a time is available.
The chili cook-off has always been a contest between all the local churches, and this year it's been opened up to Scout Troops to be contestants. Scouting troops and churches who will be willing to provide about five quarts of chili in a roaster or large pots should contact Patti so she knows she can count on several different pots of chili to be on hand for the cook-off contest.
A big draw to the event is the Father-Scout Cake Bake Auction, and this year there are more than 30 cub scouts, so there should be a good selection of cakes for the auction. Al Hamilton of Eagle Auction Services will again be the cake auctioneer and he is so good at pulling bids from people of the crowd since the proceeds go towards helping Scout Troop 353 with their activities and needs.
A new thing for the festival this year is the Howard tin. Purchase a $25 tin and then visit the vendors for an Easter cookie/candy crawl. You go to all the vendors and get your free cookie or candy to fill your tin during the winter festival.
The Mennonite choir will be singing for about 30 minutes starting at 1:30 p.m.
Dress warm and come to the Scout's Winter Festival to support the local Howard Scout Troop 353. It's always a great day to be in Howard. For more info call Patti at 814-625-2182.
CEMETERY MEETINGS
Jacksonville Cemetery Association will be holding cemetery clean-up on Saturday, March 9, beginning at 9 a.m. Volunteers are needed! A bad weather date of March 23 will be utilized if necessary. Any grave decorations that you want to save will need to be removed before March 9. Easter decorations should not be put on until after March 23. Call Pam at 814-383-2562 for info.
Schencks Cemetery Association will hold its annual membership meeting on Wednesday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m., at the Howard United Methodist Church. All lot owners and those interested in the well-being of the cemetery are encouraged to attend. The association is always looking for volunteers. The Cemetery will be cleaned the week of March 25, so if there are Christmas items on graves that you wish to keep, please have them removed no later than March 22. During clean-up, Christmas items and worn-out decorations will be removed and destroyed. For info, call Barb at 570-748-8631.
SPRING BAZAAR
Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek will be having their annual Spring/Easter Bazaar on Friday, March 22, from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tables are $10 each for vendors. Kitchen will be open both days.

KING OF KINGS
Blanchard Church of Christ invites you to join them for their 28th Annual Theatrical Production, and be one of the tens of thousands who have encountered the Gospel through the King of Kings Easter Drama. It is a 2-Act musical performance by a cast of over 85 BCC members on a completely transformed and multi-level stage. Come and experience the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through drama, narrations, creative portrayal of biblical prophecies, song and dance, live animals and more!
A love offering will be taken and childcare will be provided for each performance.
There are six performances for you to choose from -- March 15, 16, 17 and March 22, 23, 24.
Friday and Saturday prelude begins at 6:15 with the drama starting at 7 p.m. Sunday afternoon matinees begin at 3 p.m. with the prelude starting at 2:15. Tickets are FREE, and must be reserved by calling the church office weekdays at 570-962-2423.
You may also reserve your tickets at a table in the lobby of our church on Sunday mornings once tickets open up on March 1. Don't wait to reserve your tickets as some of the performances fill up quickly. Please note that your tickets guarantee you a seat until 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays or by 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. This is why the prelude begins 45 minutes before the performance starts for you to enjoy. It consists of vocal and instrumental sharings by the Blanchard Church of Christ family! SOUP SALE
Logan Grange #109 at 122 N. Main St., Pleasant Gap, is having a soup sale on March 23 from 10 a.m. until sold out or 1 p.m. Soup flavors are chicken corn noodle, potato cheddar and beef vegetable. Soup comes in freezable containers and is $9 per quart.
